We were in Yellowstone a few days before Memorial Day a decade ago. The crowds got visibly worse each day
So your is good advice for any busy park. Go visit then get out of there before school lets out

Where the fun never stops, the Kemah Boardwalk.
These are on my list of places to visit within the next couple of years due to friends & family visiting them and having a great time. Underrated vacation destinations, I suppose.

I'm a local so I always think Scottsdale is the answer but it can be hot by mid May depending on what you're wanting to do.
I used some random number generators to come up with a destination for you. It chose Ontario, Oregon. I've actually been for work. It's a lackluster town, but a decent jumping off point.

We ran the wheel tonight. We used the elimination method.
The final three were Flagstaff, San Antonio, and Destin.
San Antonio was the winner. Looks like it's a toddler trip. Plan on the zoo, Sea World, and whatever else we find to entertain the boss.
We'll be keeping the wheel and looking at doing another spin later in the year!

Depending on when you are going in May, you might be able to get spots to go watch the bat emergence out at Bracken Cave. I think BCI plans to announce their schedule for viewing nights in February, with the first nights usually sometime in May.
