As of now Bitcoin, Cardano, and Ethereum qualify as mature and decentralized = commodity.

Ethereum would fail by some standards. The standards will likely be redefined so that Ethereum and a few others qualify.


Coins from projects that are decentralized may be viewed as commodities.

Coins from projects that are centralized may be viewed as securities. In extreme cases, delisting from exchanges.

Tax implications. Commodities have a higher capital gains rate but there is other stuff going on there as well. Not sure what the full net difference is.

A good thing vs being categorized as a security. The upcoming bills and amendments will likely reveal new tax structures for commodities trading. 0 tax on trades under $300 and then some sort stairs step. The US based crypto commodities will likely also have some incentive structure for development to attract talent and create jobs.

So far I have researched iagon, and it looks interesting. Where can you get the IAG token?

I think I saw that you can use a dex to swap ADA for IAG, but that would be a taxable event. I couldn't find IAG for purchase on the centralized exchanges I use.

Once CNAs hit CEX the price will be considerably higher. Get in before it happens. My gut tells me some fairly big and important announcements for Cardano will be coming out within 30 days.

I'm going to keep adding ADA. Outside of ETH, it's been the most stable, less volatile and at 23% profit than the other 20 that I have dabbled with. Only other ones I may go back with are SEI, XCN and XLM.

Despite what the detractors spout on the main thread....

I'm using Lace as my interface to the Cardano ecosystem right now. Which of the Cardano dex's are best to use?

Is it any hassle dealing with taxes after swapping coins, or is that easy to track and figure out later?

Lace is great. I would have 2 Cardano wallets or use Gero Dashboard. I use Eternl, Yoroi, and Gero.

I also use Coinbase, Kraken, Kraken Pro, and Crypto.com ...in case of major congestion i have multiple methods and outlets to buy/sell/transfer.

Dexes - most now use aggregators, when i buy on Eternl it finds the best price from...MinSwap, SundaeSwap, Wingriders, Dex Hunter, etc

If I do a dex swap, what determines the value of my ADA that gets swapped for tax purposes? I've bought ADA at around $1, $2, $0.70, and $0.80, so at the current $0.82 price some of my ADA is an income loss and some is an income gain.

Never paid taxes on rewards as they are unrealized until withdrawn and sold. Most exchanges keep internal records that show taxable events, except when moved on/off/on again from CEX to DEF to CEX, then you have to follow in the cost basis. Coinbase send emails for all transactions that can be paired with your DEX ledger, unless you email yourself all details like I do for your record.

I never keep anything on the cex's long term. I guess I'll figure out dex swap taxes later by taking my average ADA cost as a basis?

I keep a few tokens, literally 5-15 ADA, on CEXS to keep those individual token wallets open. It makes it much easier when wanting to move assets around.

Gero Dashboard is making great progress. Look it up. Soon, it will be similar to a Cardano version of Coinbase.

If I swap ADA for IAG, will those IAG tokens automatically be stored on my Ledger under my Cardano account?

Here's how it works with all the wallets I've used.

I buy ADA on CB/Kraken/Crypto.com and send to my Eternl/Gero/Yoroi; I swap ADA for which Cardano native assets I want ; once the transaction is complete the wallets creates sub-wallets for each particular CNA.

You can always look at your portfolio/assets by each token.

I need to have a hot wallet.

Why? I do everything with a cold storage Ledger. You can use something like Lace as the interface to all your ADA assets and use it to control and monitor staking.

I have hot wallets as well. If something happens suddenly I can perform transactions immediately.

When I started this adventure in May, from my research, I was led to have exchange, hot wallet (as intermediary to cold wallet) and cold wallet. Right now, I am using Kraken and have Trezor Safe 5. Looking for input if my current setup is sufficient. I don't think I can do what LatinAg mentioned above with CNA on Trezor.

I am still noob'ing along in these 1st few months.

I'm still not sure I get why a hot wallet is needed. I can transfer directly to an exchange from my Ledger. It takes 1 minute or less to approve a transfer with my Ledger hardware.
