I've been breaking down my mutual funds held by Ameriprise. On top of a 1% advisory fee I am paying expense ratios of up to .83% on mutual funds. If I were to transfer these over to Fidelity is there a resource/website that can help me identify similar Fidelity funds with lower expenses?

Current Mutual Funds w/Ameriprise:
AEPGX, AGTHX, CAIBX, FRGXX, GFFFX, NEWFX, PONPX, PRSCX

Thank you,

For giggles I ran that thru chatGPT. Here's the feedback:

Got it your friend's current lineup is mostly American Funds products plus one PIMCO fund. I'll walk through each fund (with style/role and expense ratio) and then suggest lower-cost, broadly available comparables from Fidelity and Vanguard.

Current Funds
1. AEPGX American Funds EuroPacific Growth (World ex-US growth)
Focus: International large-cap growth, developed & emerging.
Expense ratio: ~0.80% (A-share w/ load).
2. AGTHX American Funds Growth Fund of America (US large growth)
Focus: Large-cap U.S. growth (Apple, Microsoft, etc.).
Expense ratio: ~0.65%.
3. CAIBX American Funds Capital Income Builder (global balanced)
Focus: Equity & bonds globally, income oriented.
Expense ratio: ~0.60%.
4. FRGXX Fidelity Government Cash Reserves (money market)
Already a Fidelity money market. Expense ratio ~0.42%.
5. GFFFX American Funds Growth Fund of America F-3 (same as AGTHX but lower load class)
Essentially duplicate of AGTHX, different share class.
6. NEWFX American Funds New Economy (US growth + some global)
Focus: Growth equities, more mid-cap exposure, tech tilted.
Expense ratio: ~0.75%.
7. PONPX PIMCO Income Fund (multisector bond)
Focus: Flexible bond strategy (global credit, EM debt, MBS).
Expense ratio: ~0.79%.
8. PRSCX T. Rowe Price Science & Technology (sector fund)
Focus: Pure tech sector.
Expense ratio: ~0.85%.

Lower-Cost Vanguard / Fidelity Alternatives

International Growth (AEPGX)
Vanguard International Growth Index (VWIGX/VIGAX) active growth, 0.45%.
Fidelity International Index Fund (FSPSX) broad developed ex-US index, 0.035%.
Vanguard Total International Stock Index (VTIAX/VXUS ETF) developed + emerging, 0.11%.

U.S. Large Growth (AGTHX, GFFFX, NEWFX overlap)
Fidelity Blue Chip Growth Index (FBCGX or ETF ONEQ for broad) ~0.79% (active) or use an index.
Vanguard Growth Index (VIGAX/VUG ETF) 0.04%.
Fidelity 500 Index Fund (FXAIX) 0.015% (broad S&P 500 core growth exposure).

Global Balanced / Income (CAIBX)
Vanguard Wellesley Income (VWIAX) 35/65 stock/bond, 0.16%.
Vanguard Wellington (VWENX) ~65/35 balanced, 0.16%.
Fidelity Balanced Index Fund (FBALX) 60/40 index, 0.015%.

Cash (FRGXX)
Can keep FRGXX, or swap to Fidelity Government Money Market (SPAXX) or Vanguard Federal Money Market (VMFXX), both ~0.110.15%.

Multisector Bond (PONPX)
Vanguard Core-Plus Bond (VCPIX) 0.20%.
Fidelity Total Bond (FTBFX) 0.45%.
Vanguard Total Bond Market Index (VBTLX/BND ETF) 0.03%.

Tech Sector (PRSCX)
Fidelity Select Technology (FSPTX) active tech fund, 0.69%.
Vanguard Information Technology ETF (VGT) index tech sector, 0.10%.

Summary Recommendation

Your friend's American Funds portfolio could be replicated with a 34 fund core at Vanguard or Fidelity:
Vanguard Total Stock Market (VTSAX/VTI) US core.
Vanguard Total International (VTIAX/VXUS) non-US.
Vanguard Total Bond Market (VBTLX/BND) bonds.
Optional Vanguard Information Technology (VGT) if they want a tech tilt.
Money market for cash (VMFXX or SPAXX).

This would cut expense ratios from ~0.600.80% down to ~0.030.10%, saving potentially hundreds to thousands per year depending on the size.

As highlighted above, you can get the same or better performance before fees for 0.1-0.25% via ETFs and mutual funds. The lower fees will then result in 1.5% per year better performance. For every 1,000 invested, that is $15 per year better. Add in compounding and over 10-20 years, it gets to be a really massive difference in performance.

Warning though, if your current advisor occasionally takes you to lunch, the Vanguard and ETF guys won't do it.
