What do guys usually use for trades, Penny stocks? What apps or sites would y'all recommend?

Sports betting which sites do you use?

Any help is appreciated, thank you!

I use Robinhood for short term speculation trades, meaning this is not true investing, just trying to make some quick bucks. Good mobile app and very quick.

I use Vanguard for my retirement and long term buy and hold taxable acct. Mobile app is not as slick, and the website is much more in depth.

Sports betting is a hard pass, I'd rather light cash on fire.

Fidelity for serious investments. Same as Vanguard but better customer service.

E*Trade for throwaway stock bets.

Robinhood is a no go for me after they screwed over their clientele. Webull is a no go due to ties to China (for when someone suggests it).

I do not bet on sports but if I did I would bet the house on A&M never winning the NC.

Same here on all points. Except that I would go hookers and blow over sports betting.

And penny stocks are a good way to be separated quickly from your money in most cases.

If you are truly new to investing, I'd stick with Schwab, Fidelity, or Vanguard. Best mix of low fees, actual real person customer service (including by phone), and wide availability of a variety of investments (ranked in order listed above). Quick access to money when you need it, and real physical locations you can walk in, when you need them (Schwab and Fidelity).

As you start your trading journey please note:

The market is more overvalued today, by many consensus metrics, than it has ever been.

Margin trading is not the girl you want to take home to your parents. She's at best the one that you bring home from the bar who steals cash out of your wallet when she sneaks out in the morning.

quick question - why does everyone like fidelity and vanguard more than etrade? I use etrade so wondering what I am missing... thanks!

I'm sure you're fine with what you have - eTrade is a good broker. However, for a "noob", the option of a physical location like Schwab or Fidelity, or no-frills investment advice with ultra-low fees like Vanguard might be a better initial choice.

I will add that Fidelity is just as inexpensive as Vanguard and most cases that I've done a 1:1 compare their funds equal or outperform the equivalent Vanguard fund. Add in a physical location (assuming you are in a big metro area) in case you need it, and it beats out Vanguard, IMO.

Paper trade for 6-months and see if you are any good at it, before you invest any real money.

Sports betting and trading are two different things. I would avoid equating the two.

This thread has quite a bit of good information:

As a counterpoint, I would totally avoid that thread as a "noob" investor. It's ideally an experienced traders thread, and some of the advanced/technical/gibberish language used won't be helpful to a beginner. It's not a basic "stock markets" thread, despite the name.

Chase isn't bad. Their self directed accounts are free.

lol. Agreed. Using that thread as a noob is a great way to lose your ass.

I would simply start with blue chips or safer plays on his platform of choice and learn the basics first. Watch those stocks and learn the ins and outs of trading around those. Granted, if we are talking purely play money and not that much of it you could throw money at flyers on that thread and learn by fire.

sports: Fan Duel

politics: Kalshi

equity markets: Fidelity

I will bet a few hundred on college football throughout the season and a few hundred on an election every 2 or 4 years.

Fidelity is the best brokerage platform by far.

I actually put money on the Aggies winning the SEC and the NCAA Championship.

I had a bookie argue with me in favor of sports betting with a straight face comparing Coca Cola and the Falcons.

Who's on the board of Coca Cola? See, you don't know. But you know the coaches and player on the Falcons. So you should bet rather than buy stocks.

Idiotic. I just told him good point and let it go.
