That's the problem at this school though. Big money donors are already too influential in all sports. Hiring and firing decisions need to come from internal leadership and administration or we don't have effective leadership. Trev Albert's is effectively a figurehead if he is just doing the BMD's bidding.

If you want to democratize decisions you better pony up more money…

I don't. I want an AD with an eye on success regardless of the cost. Someone that makes necessary changes and decisions and then reaches out for financial assistance to demand support. In no situation should a BMD have the power and authority to unilaterally insist on change. I feel the right person for each athletic program will do their part in creating a successful program both in terms of results and financial stability. Currently, we have a black hole in the WBB program. Texas A&M as a conglomerate has plenty of money to make these types of decisions. It seems that the general consensus for many is that the BMD are what runs the individual athletic programs. If this is truly the case, we have a toxic situation and I feel it may explain why we cannot get over the hump in many of our sports.

Does anyone know the back story of why Vic Schaefer wasn't hired as our WBB coach after Gary Blair retired? Vic is an A&M graduate, his kids grew up in College Station, and he's a defensive wizard. Just wondering why we didn't land him as our WBB head coach.

Cause Blair coached one year too long and tu signed Vic.
Blair was a better coach and might still be.

Blair's salary for his last year at A&M was $1.25 million. Schaefer's salary for his first year at Texas was $1.8 million on a 7 year contract, plus he was paid $300,000 moving expenses, etc.

Yeah he did, and he gets credit for that. But the program he built, he took back to the gutter. There are no excuses. One offsets the other. If Gary cared about the program, he would have had a succession plan in place, he didn't. Gary was too busy thinking about Gary and not about A&M. That's just my point of view.

Lord knows I've given my 2 cents and while I agree that we weren't able to capitalize on that national championship run and become a consistent national contender, I don't think we can blame Gary for much of that. Gary did incredible things with what he had. The fact of the matter is, Gary was fighting a changing game and an ever changing recruiting landscape. The true page turner for me was perhaps Chennedy Carter. Highest recruit and most talented guard we have ever had, but she created absolute chaos and demanded things I'm not sure GB was equipped to handle. Up until then, he had a bunch of talented kids that respected each other and the culture,,,

The administration is to blame for what happened to our program. He won the SEC in his second to last season, and as soon as they announced his retirement they should have had a replacement. Instead, they did the program a disservice by not having a replacement lined up immediately. Instead, we had a temporary staff, and temporary athletes all going thru the motions and not really giving much effort.

I have been hard on GB, but in retrospect, he was one of the best coaches we have ever had. He could probably still out coach the current staff - he was really good.
