We're losing Ny Pryor, Lauren Ware, Jordan Webster, and Lemyah Hylton. First and foremost we'll need to replace Pryor with a veteran point guard who can run an offense. Secondly we'll need a 6'4+ big that can rebound and command the paint as we'll work with Fats Janneh offensively. Then we'll need a couple shooters to help spread the floor and a wing that can stretch the floor, score in the paint, and defend.

This is what we have for next year assuming no portal entries…

Guards: Rieyan DeSouze, Salese Blow, Chaney Spencer, Talia Kavoka, Gianna Gentry

Wings: Janae Kent, Anita Franchini, Pien Steenbergen, Ibifaa, Azogu

Forwards: Fats Janneh, Jayda Porter, Emerald Parker, Vanessa Saidu

Joni and staff, if serious about ever winning here, will need to encourage some to hit the portal so we can upgrade the roster. Currently there is only room for 2 portal entries if she wants to field a roster of 15… there's about 3 or 4 girls that should be safe aside from the incoming freshman. None of the others contributed for us this past year positively

We haven't really seen this staff develop anyone because nobody has stayed here multiple years. Lauren Ware got worse each year, Vanessa Saidu scored less than last year. Janae Kent's scoring has improved with more usage.

Jayda Porter is 6'3 but not a center at all, her and Fats are both ideally a power forward. You absolutely need a center to start alongside Fats. Porter is really great offensively but will need some reps and time for the defensive side in the SEC.

Rieyan DeSouze is slightly undersized at the point guard position at 5'6 but she's really quick. We saw an anomaly of an undersized point guard in Pryor. It's almost impossible to replicate what Pryor was on defense. I can see a world where Joni throws her into the fire, but hard to trust an 18 year old freshman in year 5 after years and years of losing. Joni should go after a proven veteran point guard to lead and run this offense.

DeSouze and Porter are potential starters, it'll be interesting to see how Joni handles them early.

Auburn's best player Harrisom Coulibaly entered the portal as well… rough going for Larry Vickers. I expect they will go portal heavy.

Ole Miss is losing 7 seniors and expected to big spending in the portal as well.

Tennessee like stated above is going to have a lot of turnover.

I'm interested about Florida who just hired Rhode Island's coach. They gave Bama a tough game in round 1 of the tourney.

I'm also interested in how Mizzou and Arkansas attack the portal year 2 in their coaches tenures to see if the bottom of the conference gets stronger

I wish I could get excited but there's nothing to get excited about. We just do not have the staff that can draw elite talent that will put us in the top half of the SEC. Kim Mulkey recently said that the NIL money is not coming from the schools. She said Flaujae is not there because of money from LSU. It's the outside deals that she and her mom found for themselves that make her pockets rich. In my estimation you need a combo of school support, elite coaches to play for, and outside deals. We have NIL money to dish out but we don't have the other 2 is what it looks like. Kids aren't dumb enough to sign for a hope and a prayer anymore. National attention while playing in elite games is what gets them paid. We can't beat McNeese State or A&M Corpus Christi on the SEC network +.

I'm just reminded that in spite of a run of 5 SEC wins, prior to that we lost 4-5 SEC games by 30-40 points. The way Joni must walk around feeling untouchable for now bc of her contract is just sad. Abject failure as a coach at this institution.

Those suck and are demoralizing. Looking back on this season I think there are 6 elite teams in the nation that are head and shoulders above everyone else (maybe I'm stretching it by one team in adding Vandy). 4 of those 6 are in the SEC in Texas, South Carolina, LSU, and Vanderbilt. The other two outside the SEC are UConn and UCLA.

We played 3 of those schools in a row and lost by 40, 45, and 44 points.

Those 6 schools won their games to get to the Sweet 16 this past weekend like this:

LSU by 54 over Texas Tech
UConn by 54 over Syracuse
Texas by 44 over Oregon
South Carolina by 40 over Southern Cal
UCLA by 19 over Oklahoma St. (uncompetitive game, was a 20 point lead at the half)
Vanderbilt by 18 over Illinois

I want to be one of those elite teams, but WCBB is lopsided with these teams. Now that doesn't excuse many other games like UTA and McNeese. But, any time you play one of those 6 teams, you have a chance to take a real beating.

We won 5 straight, 3 of those against teams not in the tourney. One against a Tennessee team that played 2 nights before on the road and who lost 11 of their last 13 and the other being Ole Miss who was on a losing streak as well after playing their 7th game in 17 days.

Then you get cocky and call out the doubters and when it matters the most and it was win or death against an awful team who had lost 10 of their last 11 and who you beat by nearly 20 before. You go and lose in embarrassing fashion to an awful untalented Auburn team. Then you tell the world you're a tournament team and that you deserved to get in, you go play McNeese at home, a team with posts that are 5'11 and 6'1 and you get demolished by 20.

My fear is Joni is going into this offseason all cocky and thinking she can build the team around that winning streak and not the team that got blown out often or lost to UT Arlington and McNeese. Aside from Pryor being so much of the reason we won any games, we have so many players that aren't sec caliber or even power 4 caliber. While it's honorable to be loyal to the girls who believed in you despite nothing to show for it, if we run it back with the majority of the same group we can't expect anything different going into year 5. We need a massive massive roster overhaul and that starts with encouraging some girls to enter the portal and adding about 5-6 pieces

the way Trev seems to care about women's basketball, I'm afraid we'll have to endure two more awful seasons before a change is made

That's fair and I understand that, but the reality is that we used to be right there with them. Is our new reality that we just have to take our lumps from the top 10 and be satisfied with where we are? Thats certainly the feeling I get from Joni. She cannot compete with them on or off the court. She's just resigned to that fact.

I'm there with you. Being nationally elite is the desire, but our program should be in that next group of teams like Kentucky and Ole Miss who expect to be in the Sweet 16.

Second half of their season was a train wreck. Total dysfunction….players didn't like playing for Caldwell and she looked like a deer in the headlights much of the time. There seemed to be a big disconnect and these were players she had chosen for the most part…highly ranked recruits and transfers. Maybe she'll find players that fit her system bc what she's produced so far isn't it. Same thing has happened at Iowa St…almost the entire team is in the portal and that's a well-established program. These are crazy times.

The scuttlebutt locally is that she had an assistant coach who was actively working against her. At least that is what the local beat writer reported.

Nearly 60 plus sec players officially in the portal and it's only day 1… some sec teams are being gutted right now. Aside from Tennessee, Bama, Georgia, Florida, Arkansas, Mizzou, and Auburn are all struggling losing players. All have more than 5 in the portal.

The bottom of the sec is set to be extremely bad. We'll see which staffs can rebuild through the portal and with their freshman classes.

There is an epidemic taking place of agents forcing players into the portal. Many will have to play in a weaker conference or even drop a division. It's very sad. Over 1200 girls in the portal

I think this is just the new process across all of college basketball. Every team is just a one year team. To be back for a 2nd year, the team has to want you back and then you have to see eye to eye on compensation. Some players aren't wanted back. Some players, think they are worth more elsewhere. I don't think many of us here or across college sports fandom are supporters of it and think it is good for the game in the long-term.

Definitely agree with this. We need someone that can create stability (like South Carolina, LSU, tu, etc), and we just do not have it. The problem is, we cannot attract 10-12 elite players, we might attract 1 or 2, unlike the aforementioned teams. Those teams may lose a few to the portal each year, but it's mostly because they aren't getting the playing time they are wanting. The best of the best still wants to go to those schools because they are being paid, and they win and are given the spotlight. We can't really offer either of those. I would have thought an "olympic level" coach with a husband that is connected to the WNBA would have done more than it has done for us.
