Just got my renewal notice in the mail and it's jumping from $4300/year to $9600. Outrageous. 2900 sq ft in northwest Austin built in 1990. We did have a hail claim last year that resulted in a roof replacement so I did expect an increase but did not expect it to double. Needless to say, I'm having Liere shop the policy around.

I just threw up. I'm in southwest Austin right now and mine is due in August.

Shop around - aggressively. Between the increase in premiums as well as deductibles, we've had to do the same the past two years. Really had a solid round of coverage with Liere but had to part ways as we just found better options, elsewhere. We always tried to have some loyalty to an agent but just getting harder to do with the way these carriers are handling their business. With a new roof, that should help you out to some degree on at least guaranteeing replacement cost vs. ACV.

It's beyond frustrating as is the whole shopping around piece because you never get true comparisons as coverages vary. Lots of hours spent digging into those details but happy we kept a relatively flat premium this year and actually received some additional coverage and a lower wind/hail deductible.

I did talk to Liere a couple months ago and asked what I could do on my part for some savings. They mentioned they could put me on a 4% deductible which pretty much would guarantee I would pay for a new roof on my own if needed.

I think my policy would drop down to $1000 for a year. Just a thought...

I am an agent with Allstate and would be glad to take a look at a quote for you. We have been really competitive the last several months and I've been able to help several TexAgs members get new policies while they shopped around. My email is ckeith@allstate.com if you are interested.

I've thought about going with higher deductibles as well.

Actually Liere just called me back and was able to get me a policy with a different carrier for $3100, which is less than what I was paying before.

Reload, I'll get you a much better option. I own an Independent Agency in S Austin and have multiple carriers I can quote this through

FWIW, I've been less satisfied with Liere recently.....for example, they couldn't find anyone to cover my rental property. Went to Matt (silverback above) and he got me a policy with Sage Sure, Liere said they'd never even heard of them, which is odd....

I've been very pleased with Matt.

Now, may not apply to you with the recent lower quote from Liere but worth checking....

I was told by Liere that they do not work with every single insurance carrier, so that may be why they didn't know about Sage Sure. I had to go with another insurance agency to get coverage for my rental property because of this.

For sure and I understand they don't work with every carrier. But someone in that industry should know who sage sure is, imo

Edit to add: Just in general, the best service I've received by far was with Matt. Another example, we had auto & umbrella with Progressive through Goosehead. Well we got a letter from them saying they were dropping our umbrella because of inadequate home limits. Easy fix, just call Goosehead than email my home policy to Goosehead to update....crickets...call back. This time they tell me they can't beat that policy so I have to transfer over my home policy for them to do that which is complete BS. So I tell them to pound sand and transfer my auto and umbrella policy to Matt. He takes care of it in a few minutes.

He's also walked me through potential pros and cons of filing claims such as food spoilage after a power outage or when my wife was hit in a parking lot by a car that left more so than Liere or Progressive ever did. All I got from them was "we can send you the link to start a claim."
