I was joking with my neighbor the other day about how I'm sure he wants me to sell my family's 150 acres to one of those guys who'll come in and subdivide it up, given that it has substantial road frontage.Quote:
Lots of developers are looking in rural areas, and some make obscenely high offers. When they do, owners have no choice but to accept, if they don't the neighbor will.
Even though I was strictly joking (I do that a lot), he got real serious and told me that if I was ever offered, to call him and he'd buy it himself at whatever price to keep that from happening. He said he knows the other neighbors feel the same way. I assured him I was kidding, but it's good to know he feels that way.
Many of the landowners in Fayette feel the same way, I would imagine. They certainly banded together and showed the wind-farm boys the door last year.
But, there has been some division between the folks who want to sell to the subdividers and those who want to restrict it. Money talks; story at 10:00.
