No. Tech didn't play teams like USC. still don't. It was against one of their border conference rivals from new mexico.

Went looking for info.

Found this.

Lots of interesting trivia and quotes on this page.

And I recall that Curtis Martin game. Dude was unstoppable.

I had Curtis Martin in fantasy football back in the day. He was good.

Now a lot of people think that if Joey doesn't win the Big 12 this season, Cody Campbell will name himself head coach of the football team.

It still cracks me up when a conference has a number associated with their name but doesn't have that number of teams in the conference.

And by cracks me up I mean makes me think everyone associated with that conference is an idiot.

Yes, almost as dumb as Texas and midwest schools representing a Southeastern conference.

No, just super stupid to have Texas, A&M, Mizzou, and Oklahoma in a conference in representing Southeastern US states. One conference isn't properly aligned numerically while another isn't properly aligned geographically.

Here's a map for reference: Southeastern United States - Wikipedia

Not really.

SEC isn't "SEC 14" and has 16 teams. It's just SEC. Region expand and contract. Numbers are finite.

Maybe y'all can get North Dakota State to join so you can get closer to 12.

Y'all are more than welcome to take Texas, Mizzou, and Oklahoma back in the Big12... the sooner the better. A&M can stay in the SEC as it has always been more aligned culturally with the SEC than the Big12 anyways.

Yes y'all love your grits and cornbread. But Texas brings the 5 alarm chili, and the number one athletic program on the planet. The SEC is grateful to finally have this level of prestige.

Incorrect. UT has long disliked the SEC. Living in Austin, I have many Longhorn friends and neighbors and they ALL disparaged the SEC every chance they got. So UT didn't go where it wanted to go. UT went to the SEC because it was the only conference they could join and get more money. The other conferences available were the ACC and staying in the Big12. UT couldn't go to the B1G because ESPN owned its Tier3 rights and wouldn't allow them to join a FOX property. The B1G offers more money and more academic prestige... both of which UT values more than anything else (in that order). That's why UT tried to create the PAC16 in 2009/2010. More money, more academic prestige. It's also why UT stayed in the Big12... ESPN offered them $300 million to stay. Once UT bait-n-switched the PAC, Larry Scott lacked the inventory necessary to get the huge TV deal he had promised his college presidents, resulting in the eventual collapse of the conference.

A source close to the Pac-10's expansion negotiations told The Denver Post that Texas insisted on better revenue sharing and its own network, which essentially killed the deal.

"In the 11th hour, after months of telling us they understand the TV rights, they're trying to pull a fast one on the verge of sealing the deal in the regents meeting," the source said. "They want a better revenue-sharing deal and their own network. Those were points of principle. (The Pac-10) wants to treat everyone fairly. It's been that way for months of discussions."

I appreciate the effort you put into making an argument that now has nothing to do with your original point about "cultural alignment." look at all the anonymous sources you reference. way to hustle.

That said. SEC is blessed to have UT, our academic rep, our global following and the sacks and sacks of money that come with our association. Hook'em.

This was in reply to your assertion that UT goes wherever it wants. Clearly not the case as UT has had nothing but disdain for the SEC for decades. UT joined the SEC because it was the only way they could avoid falling behind in revenue. The Big12 lacks the media markets necessary to keep up with the SEC/B1G financially. UT knew the only way to keep up money-wise would be to join either the B1G or the SEC. The B1G was the preference, but UT couldn't go there as it had sold its Tier3 rights to ESPN. Make no mistake, if UT had the ability to dictate its own conference, the B1G would have been chosen rather than the SEC... more money and better academics.

Instead, UT had to tuck tail and follow A&M. This isn't the first time either. In 1918, A&M references UT in the War Hymn. 5 years later UT pens Texas Fight and references A&M. In 1933, A&M adopts "Gig 'Em, Aggies" with the thumbs-up as a its official hand sign. In 1955 UT follows suit by adopting "Hook 'Em, Horns" and the horns up hand sign. In the 1920's A&M began burning a bonfire prior to the game against UT. 60 years later UT developed a "Hex Rally" to counter A&M's Bonfire. In 2011, A&M announces it will join the SEC. UT scoffs and says A&M will be forgotten like Arkansas. Ten years later UT applies to join the SEC but has to have ESPN's financial help to make the move.

Since 2014, A&M has been directly responsible for an additional $65,000,000 (and growing) to every team in the SEC as well as the league office. Question for you, how much additional money has UT brought its conference-mates in the SEC?

You're still obsessing over the old theories and arguments. Nobody outside your echo-chamber perceives Texas as the team that" tucked tail." We're beating the hell out of you in all the conferences. here there everywhere.

Let's get back to Cody Campbell and your OP. If Pine Bluff takes Tech to OT like Abilene Christian did last year. Will billionaire Cody Campbell (the matador club shot-caller) declare himself Tx Tech head coach during this season, or will he let Joey stay until Nov.?
