So Marcel Reed petered out at the end of the season. displayed his weaknesses. A RB was injured. And the special teams was atrocious. the fake punt yesterday was the most half assed thing ever, Then there were some awful situational play calls. it all was markedly worse over the last several games.
Can't complain too much about the D.
It was a pretty good season for Elko's second. And the problems to fix are obvious.
100% spot on take. I think the biggest crutch we had in the entire program was Collin Klein's inept play calling and his stubborn desire to keep a dual threat QB in the pocket. Reed did digress as the season went along and whether he'll be the guy next year is the million dollar question. I'm not "Tickle Me Elko" with the new OC pick and I don't know enough about him to make an educated guess on what his scheme will look like. If he's a Klein understudy and it's more of that stupid ****, we're ****ed. All we can do is hope it's not and he understands what he has in Reed as a dual threat guy and not a pure pocket passer.
It's funny how an OC can go from being loved to hated in a single season. I'm not fully sure this is on the OC. There were players running wide open for dump-offs, etc. but Reed never found them. His performance cratered after the Mizzou game. Not sure why but my guess is DC's realized he was going to focus on deep and intermediate routes and ignore the short stuff, allowing them to shut that down.
