Worth it?

Going to a Packers game in September. Going to be staying in a ABNB and wanted to see if we can get golf in there for a couple days. Thinking WS one day and (?) the other?

thoughts?

Absolutely. Play WS and then try to get on Blackwolf Run. I think both courses at BWR are better than the Irish at WS.

I'll tell you in a month. Headed up there in early June and will be playing Straights, Irish, River, and Meadows. Really looking forward to it. Started reading up on it and saw a few people say that the River course is actually harder than Straights.

I've just started reading up on it. Where did you find the best intel? Where are you staying? How did you get your tee times?

Agree with BigHitterDaLama, If you can't get on at Whistling Straights try The Bull @ Sheboygan Falls. I liked it better than the Irish, but definitely try to get on at Whistling Straights and Blackwolf Run!
Lots of great courses in Wisconsin, Erin Hills, Sand Valley, others. Here's a link to others:

As an add on to another trip, absolutely try and get a round in at WS. Course is great.

As a standalone trip, I didn't really love the place and won't go back. Long story short, the American Club hotel is old stuffy feeling and not much going on other than the one bar (and I was there with a huge group of friends), the course is a decent hike from there and not much going on, and the weather will be hit or miss. Better options for a golf trip, but again, if you are already out there in the middle of nowhere near greenbay, def worth getting a round in.

Were you there to play golf or hit up strip clubs?

Having done this trip before, I would second most of what Hanrahan said. Golf was good, but WS was an excruciating slow around (6.5 hours the day we played). The American Club Hotel is at least 20 minutes away from the course. Give yourself plenty of time between rounds if you play Blackwolf Run the same day.

I found Pinehurst and Bandon to both be much better run outfits compared to the WS area courses.

Update to the story....2 night min for playing the Straits, so that is out. Sucks, but is what it is.

Only twilight times available for the others....that's both good and bad in the rate decreases but it's possible you might not finish.

Will go over and play the Bull one day.

Ended up getting a VRBO in Appleton.

Free Packers tickets are starting to add up to a pretty expensive golf trip!

Anyone played Sentry World or Lawsonia Links?

They are both rated higher than the "other" WS courses
Quinn

I've played both Lawsonia courses. Links is pretty cool, but maybe a little bit overrated. It was the last course on our trip, so maybe I was just tired, but I don't think I would make a trip just for it. They do have some old lodging on property that you can stay in too.

Haven't played Sentry, but might tack it onto my trip to WS in a few weeks.

Does Straight not allow walk-ons at full price for any possible last minute cancellations?

I'm on the wait list for an earlier tee time for both the Straits and River

Headed up last week in June then on to Marquette, MI. Going to play Greywalls, which is supposed to be fantastic.

Loved the Irish. Awesome views That was the first course we played. Try to play Meadows though if you can. We played it twice.

Pretty warm when we were up there two weeks ages. Low to mid 90s. We did five rounds in four days. The day we played 36 was the warmest day. Imagine that. We stayed at the American Club. Great rooms but outside of breakfast, not overly impressed with the food. The Taverne on Woodlake was good though. Really good crispy chicken sandwich.

Headed up to the region next month - right now I'm debating catching the preseason game with the Jets since the tickets are so cheap and it will scratch Lambeau off the list.

Nothing set in stone yet, Im thinking about flying into Milwaukee and playing The Bog early the next day, then heading into Green Bay for the late game. The next day Im debating playing in the Green Bay area ( Oneida, Twin Oaks or Royal St. Patricks) versus coming back down south and playing Quit Qui Oc or Whispering Springs.

I thought about Lawsonia or Stevens Point, but Im thinking I may bridge that with a future trip to Sand Valley if possible.

Some day I'll get to WS, but with so many options in that area I'd like to hit some of the surrounding ones first.

I'll be playing the Irish in a couple of weeks. Only 2 of us and we've been trying to get on the Straits, but that's a slim chance it looks like. Irish seems like a good consolation prize though.

Then working our way around the lake to Mackinac Island. Have rounds scheduled on the two 9-hole courses there.

make sure to report back on the Irish. I got a notification from WS today about playing the River, but we are staying with the Irish

You will love the Irish. If you want to play a great course, head up to Marquette, MI and play Graywalls. One tough golf course. One of the top public courses in the U.S.

This is not just a golf trip unfortunately. Our wives are going along so we're squeezing in golf where we can. My wife is very understanding and has taken trips with me to Pebble and Pinehurst among other places, but I have to pay that back every now and then.

Looking forward to the Irish. My first time in that part of the country. A long way from the RGV! I'll post afterwards.

The wives were with us this trip. Prepare yourself as they didn't think there was a lot to do in Kohler/Sheboygan compared to Pebble, Pinehurst and Scottsdale.

My dad and I went up to Whistling Straights last month and had a great trip. We played all four Kohler courses at least once and also made our way to The Bull and Sentry World.

As a high handicap, I was surprised by how playable the Straits was. I was worried that I'd get my ass kicked, but it was actually fairly playable and the fairways were pretty generous. I struggled on the greens, but drove the ball well and hit my irons well (for me). The views are incredible throughout the round, with the par 3s being the highlights. My dad got really close to a hole in one on the 12th, with its pin tucked all the way on the back right. Overall a great course and experience that I'd recommend.

We also played the Irish, River, and Meadows, with the Irish at the same property and the River and Meadow courses being 15 minutes away. I enjoyed all of those rounds as well, maybe preferring the River most of all.

I understand the comment on this thread saying it's not a great place for a guys trip. If you're there for anything more than golf, I agree. The golf is great, but it's really a company town for Kohler. There are four locations between the two course sites, the hotel, and the American Club that has multiple restaurants, that we went between. All easy, short drives, but you're unlikely to stay in one location all trip.

Nice.

What did you think of Sentry World? Im debating squeezing it in during my trip because its a little out of the way from my other options.

Sentryworld was pretty cool. Extremely well conditioned course with immaculate greens. Seemed like a nice country club course to me, but not anything outrageous like I like to see on trips like this. You will enjoy playing it, and the all-in food/drinks part is really nice too, but I'm not sure if it was worth the 4+ hour round trip of driving that we did. If I was within an hour, definitely; more than that, not sure. It was also the last round of our trip so we were pretty worn out by that point.

Played the Irish on Tuesday. Very much enjoyed it. Only a couple of holes that I would say were kinda meh. Greens were as fast as any I have ever played. Blew putts by the hole all day long. We took a forecaddie and were glad we did. As good of a course as you would want to play. Staff was great before, during and after the round. A few of my pics.

Free brats at the turn was a nice treat!

If you zoom in you might see the very top of a pin. 152 yard par-3 with a completely blind shot.

Here's our caddie holding the giant pin they have to use for this hole. You can tell the wind was blowing pretty good. If you zoom in you'll see my tee shot about 4 feet away. Missed the putt! Bad caddie read.

I did my second trip to all these kohler courses about a month ago. It's a top notch trip.

Whistling you need a good caddy to tell you where to hit it. A lot of room but it's hard to see it off the tee. But if you do hit I offline you are screwed to even try to get I back in play from the junk. But it's a top 5 course imo.

Blackwolf River is the best maintained course there but it's more of an inland course. They played women's us opens there and I think one of them was the hardest of all time. The greens can become unplayable at spots.

Blackwolf meadows is a good one too. We played 36 there one day and everyone in my group loved it. It almost has every kind of hole out there. Flat ones, some open ones, some water ones, some wooded ones. It's a really good course.

The bull was good too for only golf. Pretty much completely different than the other course. Service and gear they had in the pro shop was a step below. The kohler courses are top notch when it comes to service. This wasn't one of them.

Golf at the bull was good though. It was way more wooded and tree lined than the other courses so good change of pace. Really liked the layout and there was a few really fun holes. It was a notch under all the kohler courses in terms of shape.

Then the Irish is great as well. It might be my favorite course out there. I'ts not hard at all, and it's short, but you still have to hit good shots. And it was in fantastic shape. It's the most underrated course of the whole trip. Just so fun to play.
