I'm playing in a tournament at a conference on Sunday at Painted Dunes Desert golf course in El Paso. Bringing money for the cart girl and a good attitude.

Anything I need to know?

No idea how the course is now, but I grew up in EP amd played there a lot between 2000-2002. It was the best public course in EP back then. I have no idea what it's like now. But good luck

Played there all the time from 2002-2012 (at least when home from A&M in the summer). I try to get back there every couple years. Was last there in 2023.

They keep the East/West 9 in better shape (there is a North 9 holes that was designed to be easier but they don't maintain it as well anymore). It was my go to as a crappy HS golfer.

If you play the North, outside of 4, it's pretty open. 8 used to be fun to try to drive the green, but with the massive green side bunker now a waste area, it's a lot higher chance of a lost ball if you miss.

East is the more fun of the other two. A couple short par 4s, but then a couple that can be real beasts into the wind. The desert is a crap shoot like most desert courses. Put a ball in it and you have a 50% chance of an easy out, 50% chance of being screwed, and a slight chance of seeing a snake.

It was absolutely beautiful. Best greens I've played on so far

Btw, my team totally carried me and we finished 2nd at -15. Basically had a guy who would get us on every par 4 in two, then we needed one of the 4 of us to hit a putt. I hit one good chip, a good 9-iron, and hit one 20ish foot birdie putt in the entire round to contribute. Lucky to be with a foursome who were very patient and considerate of my inadequacies.

Good to hear it's still looking good. I love that course. Playing 18 holes as a single in 2.5 hours in the dying hours of a summer day...that's my golf happy place.
