Awesome. I made last minute tee times and am driving over to play Old Mac on Saturday and Pacific Dunes on Sunday. I really hope one of girls make it to the finals, so I can watch after my Saturday and Sunday Rounds.

Aggie Freshman Scarlett Schremmer tied for 4th place with a 1st round score of -3, one off the leaders with -4. She was tied for 1st a few times but ended up one shot off the lead. I thought we would do much better overall but some of the girls had a rough first round. But today is a new day and they will do better !!

(FR) T4 - Scarlett Schremmer -3
(FR) T54 - Natalie Yen +1
(SO) T73 - Vanessa Borovilos +2
(SR) T111 - Kynadie Adams +4
(JR) T127 - Cayetana Fernandez Garcia-Poggio +6
(FR) T152 - Avery Zweig +11

Winds have been mild the first two days, so low scores are out there. Winds forecasted starting Thursday to be 15-25 the rest of the week with Saturday reaching 30 mph. It will really test the players who don't play in the wind frequently.

Aggie Sophomore Vanessa Borovilos shot a -9 today and is tied for 4th after the second round. As of now (a few still on the course) her -9 was the best round of the day! Vanessa made the biggest jump of the six Aggies competing today, moving from T73 to T4 !! Freshman Natalie Yen followed yesterday's +1 with a -5 today to finish at -4 and a tie for 16th (was T54 yesterday!). Freshman Scarlett Schremmer followed yesterday's round of -3 with an even par today to finish in a tie for 21st with an overall -3. Junior Cayetana Fernandez Garcia-Poggio shot a 69 today, improving considerably on yesterday's 78 to finish at +3 overall, tied for 80th, but she still missed the cut, darn it. But, darn good try, Cayetana !! Both Senior Kynadie Adams and Freshman Avery Zweig knocked 2 strokes off of their scores from yesterday so that's a great sign !!

(SO) T4 at -7, Vanessa Borovilos (74+63=137)
(FR) T16 at -4, Natalie Yen (73+67=140)
(FR) T21 at -3, Scarlett Schremmer (69+72=141)

Did not make cut

(JR) T80 at +3, Cayetana Fernandez Garcia-Poggio (78+69=147)
(SR) T106 at +6, Kynadie Adams (76+74=150)
(FR) 155 at +20, Avery Zweig (83+81=164)

Three Aggies making the cut is really groovy. Match play starts tomorrow so best of luck to the girls !!

Today's press release after Vanessa's outstanding round yesterday:

Borovilos Sets U.S. Women's Amateur Record; Trio of Aggies Advance to Match Play

https://12thman.com/news/2025/8/5/womens-golf-borovilos-sets-us-womens-amateur-record-trio-of-aggies-advance-to-match-play

Gosh, all I knew was that it was the lowest round of the day until I read the press release - good for her !!

I will make a separate thread just for this press release - she deserves it - but will continue on this thread to follow our players as they continue in the tournament.

I think it was a tournament last year, perhaps in Houston, where Vanessa did not have a single bogie the entire tournament. 54 holes without a bogie - think about that! I recall Coach Chadwell said something along the lines of "I have never seen that before!". And he has been around golf for a long time! Oh, and that was as a Freshman!

Match play, Round of 64, starts today. But today's match play is preceded by a playoff of 15 players for the remaining 6 spots in match play.

Scarlett lost by one, darn it.

Natalie is up by 1 after six. Vanessa is tied after six.

A big shock, at least to me, is that 16 yo phenom Asterisk Talley lost by 6 !! She was the #2 seed playing the #63 seed. So, no matter how good you are everyone has an off day but congrats to her opponent for having a great day!

Yen just won her match over the US JR AM champ, 1 up.

And she's reppin a nice Aggie quarter zip.

Vanessa was 3 up after 15 but lost by 1 in 20. Darn it.

At least Natalie advances to the Round of 32 - groovy!

Crazy loss. The tee shot her competitor hit on 16 and the second shot on 18 were ridiculous. Hats off to her but sucks for Vanessa.

That's the way it goes, darn it. Vanessa set the course record the day before and then her opponent makes some great shots and takes her down the next day. But it happens to the best golfers in the world. She's a fantastic golfer and she will dazzle us many times in the future with her talent.

I was curious about what tournament Vanessa went bogey free so did a quick search this morning and found it.

From Feb 25, 2025:

Borovilos Wins Chevron Collegiate; Leads Team to Runner-Up Finish

https://12thman.com/news/2025/2/25/womens-golf-borovilos-wins-chevron-collegiate-leads-team-to-runner-up-finish

"Borovilos fired a 5-under 67 in every round of the tournament and went bogey free all 54 holes to claim the championship. The Ontario, Canada, native locked up her place at the top of the leaderboard with an eagle on the par-5 No. 13."

From Coach Chadwell:

"Vanessa was phenomenal. Going bogey free over 54 holes is something I do not think I have ever seen."

A 67 each round and not a single bogey, talk about consistency !!

Freshman Natalie wins by 4, advances to Round of 16. She went 1 up in the first, was tied in the third, then went 1 up in the fourth and kept a lead all the way through. Great job, Natalie !!

Darn it, lost by 1. And to make it even worse, even though I posted the schedule early in the thread, I forgot two rounds would be played on Thursday! I followed the first online and then was busy the rest of the day so missed the Round of 16 - triple yikes!

Well, she did really well to make it that far AND she is only a Freshman.

Recall that the first team competition is the Carmel Cup at Pebble Beach, starting Aug 29. Only three weeks from today. The coaches will have until then to decide on the starting five and any IND players. Tough choices!

What a choice by our coach, which qualifier for the US Am doesn't make the squad in any given tournament and that is if no one else on the team qualifies and makes it more than one left home or playing IND.

Safe to say, our coaches have recruited depth.
