Most of my windows have a broken window seal. I get condensation on the inside when it gets cold. Not sure how old they are.

I don't have any experience with this. Wondering if I should just get the glass replaced or get the whole window replaced? I am going to get estimates for both this week.

Don't plan on being in this house for more than 3-5 years. Is it worth getting the whole window replaced or should I only get the glass done?

When was the house built? How old are the windows.
They're obviously not single-pane, so I'd probably suggest replacing the glass. Should get a decent price if you're replacing multiple panes. Even better if they're all the same size.

My windows are 23 yo and do the same thing. I asked my glass guy if it would even be worth it to think about replacing the glass. He said flat out no, just get new windows. Considering he could have made money off saying yes, I took his word for it.

I just brought a glass guy out for a bid to replace 33 sashes of glass on a 20+ year old house I'm buying. Same situation as you, double-panes windows lost their seal, started fogging, and is no longer energy efficient.

To replace the glass for 33 sashes, quoted just under $8K

What was his reasoning on getting new windows vs glass?

Go the cheapest route then. Getting the glass replaced should be cheaper than getting the entire windows replaced - but it won't be a major major savings but still a savings.

If I remember correctly, he said the aluminum frames normally are still going to leak/let in a lot of air.

We built our house 42 years ago. About 15 years ago, we had condensation. We had glass and seals replaced for a fraction of the cost of new window. Nowhere near 8 grand. Maybe $1500.

Did the new glass fix the condensation issue?

The condensation is just on the window frame on mine. Not really on the glass at all

Depending on your window size A new replacement window would be 7-800 And a replacement 2-400 per pane

I know the replacement price because we just did it for a client in BCS

What Maddie said.

I just had the glass replaced in 32 sashes where the seal had failed and the windows were very cloudy/hazy. Have been in my house for 22 years.

Used Statement Windows and Doors out of Montgomery. They did a great job and saved me much $$.

Aggiegolf if its not too late, I'd get an estimate from them.

Did your contractor have an opinion of glass replacement vs window replacement?

If you want window replacement Window world

We did not do per se glass replacement we did the actual pane replacement. We/they replace the whole
Sash and glass

It comes as a unit The upper part is cheaper because it a single unit. The lower a little bit more expensive

Send me a text and I can get you a rough number before you even get started to make sure it works for you

Yes. They did. When they came out to inspect, they said the frames of the window were in good shape, thus I could/should just replace the glass. Said that if they found a window needing full replacement they would let me know...they could do that too.

Are vinyl windows the way to go now? I've replaced glass in a few windows in the past and have 6 that need replacing now. House is 30 years old and a bunch of windows leak some air and have dirt on bottom of frame. Considering just doing new windows, except for the pricy wood windows on the front of the house.

It seems that Vinyl windows aren't really the way to go but more so the only available option now a days. Window World claims that aluminum frames are inferior to their product since metal is more susceptible to contracting/expanding. That may be true, but is it a valid concern? Around the frame there should be enough caulk to make up for any movement and to provide a good seal. I'd worry as with any plastic degrading in the Texas sun would be far worse than their claims with aluminum.

I wouldn't worry about the expansion of the aluminum. They're just saying that because they don't build an aluminum window. They aren't as efficient as vinyl but I'd just go with whatever you like the most. A good vinyl window will be fine in Texas heat though.

Just got Andersen Composite windows put in. They are incredible and the quote was only a couple thousand more that window world. Was not at all impressed with the vinyl windows that window world offered.

If in Houston/North Houston reach out to Champion Forest Exteriors. Aggie owned and top notch

Yes. CF Exteriors carries a few brands, Andersen being one of them. Renewal by Andersen typically costs more for the same Andersen product.

Thanks! I got a quote from renewal last year and it was significantly higher than others.
