The overflow catch basin on my pool had a grate covering it to keep the kids out which was a good idea in principle but sucks for every time I want to clean it. I'm removing it and wondering what's my best plan to remove these anchor bolts. I can get the to freely spin, but cannot for the life of me get them to come out. I've applied pressure while turning and still nothing. I guess I could always cut them off and plaster over, but that won't work on the tile side. Any ideas?

  • Yes, cutting & repairs is not MY 1st choice either
  • Hammering the anchor ends deep into and out of the gunite also needs sealing and maybe impossible, not to mention deftly avoiding eggshell tile damage
  • Shopped for 3D Aggie gifts that might screw on like gargoyles - not yet + weird
  • Me? Alum.annodized 6-in+ wide gutters that are EZier to shop vac clean
Isn't it $1-200 twice/year to have a pro w/equipment do this for you, as is? IDK
I could skip a fancy dinner out & do a pizza night to pony that up.

Willing to learn ... swim family that wants no backyard pool care anymore, thank you + times have changed with all that.

Cut off close as possible
Hammer back to create space for epoxy
Last resort
Torch and burn back enough to epoxy hole

Give it a good couple wacks with a heavy hammer / mini sledge hammer into the wall and them try pulling it out? Maby 1-2 lighter strikes on all sides but careful on tile one as you don't want to break the tiles. You basically just want to bearly break the hold of the original epoxy or concrete in there. Can drill a hole through bolt and feed steel cable through it and use that for leverage to pull? Can even hammer on the cable in reverse direction to try and pull bolt out if you buy long enough cable. The cheap spooled stuff at Home Depot sold by the foot should work. Epoxy up the hole afterwards.

A slide hammer might work too if you get one with a plate you can feed the bolt through and nut it down. Something like this using yoke adapter. Need a steel bar with 3 holes, 2 for yoke bolts and 1 in center for pool bolt. Attach bar to yoke adapter and slide hammer away.

I'd just cut them off flush and put some pool putty over them until you're ready to re-plaster & re-tile.

Sucks that some builders will install covered basins without floor cleaning systems. Probably plays havoc with your chemistry & algae blooms if you're not cleaning it regularly.
