These little suckers are worse than nyc cockroaches…anyone have any success getting rid of them and/or where they come from? I've done the drain gel and IGR spray to no avail

I have a Zevo adhesive trap plugged in near the kitchen sink. It has eliminated them. I've been using it for at least 3 years.

It emits a blue light that attracts all flying pests and they get stuck to the adhesive. Throw away the old one and replace every few months.

Yeah we've done that too but they keep coming…I'm trying to eliminate the actual issue

Have you tried setting out a small cup of apple cider vinegar with a drop of dish soap in it?

I fought the same battle in 2023 and 2024. IGR, drain cleaner, (near) boiling water, apple cider vinegar traps, special probiotic drain cleaners, etc. It would seem to help for a while, but never solved the problem.

In 2025, one of our bath sinks (which always seemed to have the most drain flies around it) started to drain very slowly. No drain cleaner would help. I finally tried using a "Drain Weasel" wand, thinking it must be some fantastic hair/toothpaste clog. Nope... it was a massive drain fly nest. Once that mess was removed, the problem went away...at least it has for the last 6-8 months. I still stay vigilant with Zevo trap monitoring. Time will tell....

If they show up I pour boiling water down the sink and run some through the disposal as well. We also will use bleach water. Take the shroud that goes in to your disposal off and clean it as well.

I can't swear this is what fixed the problem for us, but after battling them to no avail for over a year, I climbed on the roof and treated the vent stacks from the top end. Seemed to vanish after that.
