It's been a while since I had to replace the grids in my DE filter. My pool vacuum has been picking up a lot of grey/white fine particles which I assume is the DE filter powder that I put in the skimmer after backwashing the pool or cleaning the filter. I assume there's a hole(s) in the filter(s) and the DE filter is going right through it and out into my pool through the jets. Anyone replaced this themselves or have any advice. Last time I had a pool tech replace it but now I refuse to pay a pool tech to come out unless absolutely necessary.

I have replaced mine. if you are mechanically inclined at all it is a fairly simple job.
have to drain your filter, take it apart.

I am sure there are youtube videos for a step by step. should take it apart once or twice a year to clean it all anyway. good time to check your filter grids.

when you put it back together, replace the grids that are worn or have holes. Leslies carries my Hayward grids. Amazon too, I'm sure.

My advice to you is to re-assemble the filter grids upside down when you are reconnecting everything to the manifold.

I've done it and its easy. I bought a complete new assembly on Amazon. If you've never taken it apart you might be surprised at what you find. Maybe it only needs a cleaning. This is a good time of year to take care of it.

I ordered this replacement set of grids for $159. as this weekend will be some nice days to figure this out. I'm sure the pool teach would tack on an extra $200 labor.

We get it, you hate pool techs and paying them for their time.

he would for sure. It isn't hard to do, but it can be time consuming.
Grids can last a long time with proper maintenance.
