Have never lived in SA and now live out of state. Friends are going to Big Bend which is my home territory but asked me about historical sites to see in SA. They've been to the Alamo. Suggestions?

The San Antonio Missions for sure. It's a UNESCO World heritage site.

Casa Navarro, maybe?
The Riverwalk, obviously. Take a boat tour.
Menger Hotel Bar
Fredericksburg and the Museum of the Pacific War is excellent

They've been to the Alamo, but they've upgraded the museum exhibit recently.

There's a self guided walking tour of the King William neighborhood.

San Fernando Cathedral
And while not historic, market square.

Do they know that SA is nowhere near Big Bend?

Yes. We live in Mesa, Arizona and they're traveling from here to Big Bend down to the valley, San Antonio and then back home. Since I grew up on the road into the front door to Big Bend they asked me.

Just making sure, there's a lot of people that don't understand how big Texas is.

They left Mesa yesterday heading home to South Dakota but have 2-3 weeks to get back. They went to the Chiricau Monument in SE Arizona and today went to Guadalupe Mountain NP. My family is Van Horn, Balmorhea and Fort Stockton so I recommended El Capitan Hotel in Van Horn where they are tonight. If any of you guys are out west it's been restored and has a nice restaurant and bar. They going down to the valley after Big Bend and then to SA.

I coached them up on the it's far stuff.

Not historical necessarily, but kinda bad timing if they come to town THIS weekend. Lots of out of town visitors for the Final Four AND Valero Texas Open.

I warned them about that before they left. They're already a day behind so they probably won't make it until next week.

Thanks to all for the ideas.

Of the places my parents lived before I was born Balmorhea was their favorite. As a kid riding a tube in the irrigation ditches was heaven.
