I'm looking at what options may exist for my father's sabre once I die. Long story short is my daughter is an only child and she is an only grandchild on both my side and her mother's side. So, she's going to inherit four plus houses of stuff including furniture, memorabilia, etc. She is not an Aggie (and even though her mom and I are multi-generational Aggies we supported her decision because for her desired studies she got into a better program than A&M had). She loved her grandfather (my dad) but keeping his sabre with all of the thousands of other items is overwhelming. My father was class of '58.

Does the Corp have a donation program where is can go to a new upcoming cadet. Or….? Looking for ideas and info.

Thanks in advance.

Thank you!!

My father was a Ross Volunteer and Company commander. Would like to see something more than a corner of a closet for it.

Cheers. There's a program to donate senior boots, so I'm a little surprised not to find one for sabres by either the University or the Corps Association.

The Corps Center takes sabers as well. I donated my boots, saber, the Sam Browne I somehow stole from my now-disbanded outfit, and something else I can't remember. It was all done through the boot donation program

Good to know. I checked all sorts of A&M and Corps sites and none I found mention accepting sabre donations for use by upcoming cadets.

You'd think the Corps would have a cache of donated "heritage" sabres to loan to cadets who can't afford to buy their own. Similar to the boots program.

I'm sorry to hear about the loss of your father, my father is Class of '58 as well. The Sanders Corps Center takes Corps sabers for cadets. Since he was an RV he can also donate it to the RV company and they will use it for one of the senior RV officer positions as a "pass down" saber each year. I donated one of my sabers to the RV company and this year will be the 4th year for a cadet to carry it. You can email the RV Association and they likely can hook you up for the donation. rva@corpsofcadets.org. Sam Hawes '81

The boot and saber loan programs are NOT managed by the Trigon or the Sanders Corps Center.

They are managed by the Texas Aggie Corps of Cadets Association.

Give them a call at 877/892-4222

Gig 'em! and thanks for your willingness to donate!

The Association website doesn't mention loaning sabers anywhere I can see. Perhaps the saber program should be added to the boot loan page for better publicity?

Try donating it to his old outfit. I did that for the mom of a classmate who passed. They were happy to receive and would have their Supply Officer carry it.
