Have an intern here at work that finished an MS at Sam Houston and .... I hate universities and the lies they tell.

One of the things weve talked to her about is the possibility of seeking a commission in the navy or air force. I really don't know where to tell her to start, or who to talk to... can anyone point us the right way, or have a contact?

This is a good kid, hard worker, smart and disciplined. I think she could do it but...I guess we'll see.

Don't have an answer for you other than I've got a young guy working for me that has been jerked around by the Air Force for the last year or so, finally got a ship date of August.

ETA: I think what would help your answer is what exactly this person wants to do with their life career wise. That may help in the direction of Air Force or Navy.

The what is a good question. She has an interest in forensics and investigations, but sam talked her into a criminal justice degree. She has had no success at all with anytbing resembling forensics or with a LE acency, and my employer ( which is at least adjacent) is letting her intern and use us to at least gain some experience that might be useful.

Weve been working with her on finding a career path, and we brought up the idea that the navy/airforce might be good options as part of the investigative units. Since then, she's been thinking and looking, and after we talked today she has actually become very interested in the navy in general( and likely AF). Id love to find a current/ former officer that might be able to give the girl some advice on that front.

tell her to talk to an officer recruiter if she wants to comission....

Air Force has something called OSI, something she might be interested in. I belive that any AFSC can apply and try out for OSI, but I may be wrong.

OSI is competitive. Not sure what their off the street hire likelihood is.

Don't discount the other services, just because one is in the Army doesn't mean they're in the infantry. For example, Corey Pullig is a career Marine lawyer. My niece spent 7 years in the Army as an OB/Gyn, opened a lot of doors when she got out.

You are correct. They recruit periodically. Definitely should find an AF Officer recruiter though.
