Hosing people who aren't plugged into secondary values and think the prices they'll see here are fair.

A couple things....first, it could be ignorance. People don't always know what secondary values are. Second, it goes both ways. This thread thinks it's ok for a buyer to get a steal but not for the seller to get more than it's worth....when in reality, in both scenarios someone is getting "hosed"

Perfect example, I had a bottle I was going to sell and didn't know what it was worth. I was private messaging a prominent poster and he said $5k was reasonable to post it for on here. So that's what I did. Got blasted for trying to screw fellow Aggies, wasn't worth more than $2.5k, etc. So I took it down, did more research, and sold it somewhere else for $4k.

Crazy story. Almost like capitalism worked here.

This is how things should be viewed. It's ultimately up to people to move things at whatever price they want. I've offloaded plenty of stuff for less than what it's worth just for pure convenience and spent more for others because I wanted to get my hands on it and didn't care.

I don't mind paying more than secondary if I can get it quickly and also know that I am likely meeting up with a real person that is trustworthy. I prefer to pay close to secondary as possible but if I'm in a pinch or just don't want to hassle with shopping around, I've got no problem paying a little extra.

Outside of a couple of instances, i don't think it is malicious. I think in most circumstances people do a search and see a price online a just go off of that, not realizing that A that price is out of whack and B the market has dropped. Another thing is all of the old tracking websites are now either pay or app only which makes it a lot harder to track prices.

It seems most folks are quick to adjust the price when that is pointed out.

I think a lot of people got really into the bourbon game during the Covid boom in 2020 and probably kept up with secondary valuations through the highs in 2021-2022. But now the secondary market has cratered and people think (possibly ignorantly, possibly intentionally) that they can still get 2022 secondary prices on here, which simply aren't close to current values.

I can agree with that. I kept up with values on my bottles mostly for trading what I had for other stuff. Haven't really bought or traded much but the market has fluctuated tremendously. I think the list of bottles I have and prices are probably way inflated compared to the current market. I also agree that if somebody lists something and it's doesn't sell that's a pretty good indicator that it's overpriced. It wouldn't hurt my feelings one bit if someone more in touch with the market let me know my listing was overpriced either.

But "which" trade groups? Are you sure you picked the right ones? Have all members shown that they have updated their bourbon aps with the latest download? Have you made sure that when any discrepancies occur that you choose the lower of all numbers to post? You dont want to be found living on Tertiary Street. The sign on the front of Secondary Market clearly states that you may not sell for a price that is over the price everyone agrees on is cool.

Interesting to hear about the Jefferson's. The bourbon guy at my shop was really high on that expression too, and he isn't a fan of Jefferson's at all.

Went to that location today to get Fortaleza. They still have it but wouldn't sell it. They put a couple bottles out per day and only on certain days. Wished they would have told me that over the phone before I drove 40 min on tollway to get there. Stupid rules. F'rs.

FWIW a couple of my friends swear the Peerless DO tastes just as good as the 13th Colony DO. I haven't tried the DO from 13th Colony. I was able to snag a bottle of the cask strength it's pretty great.

Haven't tried the 13th colony DO either, but the Peerless DO is exceptional, as is their DO Rye expression.

I love the Peerless DO but have heard the 13th Colony DO is exceptional.

I dont think the Peerless DO remotely comes close to 13th Colony. Fun thing about bourbon or any food is that its different for everyone.

Is that Stagg Jr. SP good? I was able to snag one a couple months ago for half the price but was letdown big time.
