You get 5 assistant coaches on the bench. So hopefully we would pay for 2 more.

Terry would be a very valuable pickup.

However, I dont see him coming here. Plus, dude was a total hypocrit as a HC.

Yes. He surely will damage his own success to help the team that fired him. Just like Earley was a plant.

I'm sure it's gonna ruffle some feathers as soon as we hit a rough patch. But it seems like BK had a lot of influence on the current staff. Wondering how much influence he had in getting the current staff put together.

BK clearly has his fingers all over. Honestly, I think BK is a great fit for a basketball program manager/back end of things type job. Just NOT working a sideline as a head coach.

As a relatively new college head coach, it's smart for Bucky to bring in a very experienced staff- as long as everyone is on the same page. I think the BK-connections are part of the glue helping to make sure everyone is all in to try to make this successful for Bucky.

Cole was on Bucky's staff already. Keller had just been let go and was a perfect fit to add here, and Cole recommended him. Cole and Keller vouched for Darby, along with Haith who had worked with Darby in Memphis IIRC.

Bucky wisely knew he needed an SEC-caliber staff (was one of my biggest concerns about the hire, and one he answered right away) and relied heavily on Cole for input.

BK wasn't pulling strings or making connections, but he was the main reason most of the staff was connected to begin with.

Doesn't BK still live in College Station? I'm sure they've at least talked.

BK's best attribute as a coach was probably his ability to identify and hire really good up and coming assistants. He has an impressive coaching tree. Pretty much the opposite of Buzz in that regard.

BK's staff at Murray State was Steve Prohm, Amir Abdur Rahim and Dusty May.

I'm pretty sure Corey Felder from DePaul is joining in some capacity. He was a GA there for the past couple of years so he may be a GA here but not sure. All of his posts on X have been about A&M basketball for the past month.

BK could also coach defense pretty well. We were a top 25 defense in a year we absolutely sucked overall and were top-50-ish or better in all but two seasons.

I HATE watching pack line defenses, but we were pretty good at it.

Kind of funny that we're getting the band back together for a system that is almost in every single conceivable way the opposite of what BK liked to run.

I don't think so, I think he owns a place outside of town, but I dont think he lives there permanently.

if you look at it from an offense/defense standpoint it makes perfect sense.

Keller and Cleveland's history defensively, they both fit perfectly. Cleveland with Mike Anderson for most of his career ran the closest thing to Bucky's defense you will find. In fact, due to Anderson/Cleveland time coaching at UAB the same years '02-06 that Bucky was playing right down the road at Birmingham Southern and getting started coaching locally, there's probably a lot of close ties and influence w the defensive scheme. Keller also ran one of the most aggressive pressure defenses in the country. Both Cleveland and Keller have coached teams that led the nation in steals/turnovers. Something Bucky did at Samford also.

Cole is the offensive guy.

Quote:

BRYAN-COLLEGE STATION Texas A&M men's basketball head coach Bucky McMillan announced former Samford assistant coach Neb Exantus as the Aggies' Director of Player Development and Personnel on Friday.

Known for his work ethic and ability to develop talent, Exantus comes to Aggieland after four seasons as an assistant coach on McMillan's staff at Samford. In his four seasons as an assistant coach, the Bulldogs won three Southern Conference Championships two regular season crowns and a tournament title while compiling a 99-52 record, which includes 20-plus victories every season.

He joined McMillan's staff as a graduate assistant in 2020 after a season at his alma mater, Southern New Hampshire University, where he helped develop a pair of all-conference players for the Division II Penmen.

Before his time at Samford, Exantus served as a coach at the nationally-ranked West Oaks Academy in Orlando, Florida. His passion for developing players extended beyond the high school scene, as he worked with prominent AAU programs, including Showtime Ballers and Team Breakdown, gaining further experience coaching elite-level talent and future NBA Players.

So what does this summer look like in terms of off season practice? Never really paid attention to when\if basketball has any summer practices/camps, or even coaches can have contact with the players. Just got to wait until school starts in August?
I wanna see our defense pissed off, not confused, maybe a little murder in their hearts Reload12, 11/4/11

I find it fascinating how many people act like firing a coach after one year is something that would be likely or even that a school would ever do. Nevermind us, when was the last time anybody did that, besides some kind of for-cause incident .

On these Trev/Earley/Elko meltdown threads going on in various places now, I do find it fascinating how some of the "Fire Buzz" idiots are already declaring victory on Bucky as if he were someone they ever would have entertained us hiring (or had ever heard of him) and also as if he isnt also someone who has never won a single game here yet.

I think the biggest Buzz detractors were people who just want dopamine hits from recruiting.

I get it, and I bet even in the building people think it should be done. But people in a profession dont like to do things that arent "how things are done" in that profession as a pretty solid rule.

The primary example is by Aggie Dad 26 (unsurprisingly). He called us all "goalkeepers" for good measure. I don't think he's posted around here at all except to say Duke Miles was a nice pickup, which leads to questioning the possibility that he himself is a jinx.
