Oklahoma transfer guard Duke Miles commits to Texas A&M basketball

Former Oklahoma guard Duke Miles has announced his commitment to Texas A&M.

At 6-foot-2 and 190 pounds, Miles averaged 9.4 points, 2.5 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 1.4 steals as a senior for the Sooners. He shot 51.4 percent from the field, 43 percent from 3-point range and 83.1 percent at the free throw line.

Miles spent the first three seasons of his career at Troy, where he was poised to lead the Trojans in scoring before suffering a season-ending injury in November.

After transferring to High Point to play for Alan Huss in 2023, Miles broke out as one of the best scorers at the mid-major level, averaging 17.5 points and 3.6 assists per game. He earned 2023-24 All-Big South First-Team honors and made the 2024 All-Big South Tournament Team. He finished second in points per game, third in assists, fourth in steals, first in field goals, second in player efficiency rating, second in win shares per 40 minutes, first in offensive rating and second in points produced per game across the Big South.

Miles took his game to the next level by transferring to the SEC to play for Porter Moser and the Sooners by being their third-leading scorer behind two future NBA players.

The Montgomery, Ala., native beat Bucky McMillan’s final Mountain Brook team in the Alabama 7A State Championship game in 2020. McMillan was hired at Samford after Miles beat him in his final game at the high school level.

If any dentists in the Bryan-College Station area would like to offer Miles an NIL deal, go right ahead. He lost a few of his front teeth diving for the ball in a game earlier this season against Mississippi State.

Miles arrives in Aggieland with one year of eligibility left.

Great pick up, but any chance of getting the bench guy from Oklahoma that torched us every time we played them?

Buzz haters should be happy!

By my count we should have enough to make a team, right?

Being reported elsewhere as such. Guessing he isn't a fan of competition for playing time as other guards come on board…or maybe another perfectly good reason.

I dont get the "I dont want competition".

Dont players want to win? Takes a team to win.

Something like 5 players will play 20 mins + per game and another 5 will play 10 mins +. The style demands it.

Yeah, hopefully Bucky talks him back down.
They're still going to need him.

Seems like the style of play is gonna promote fewer minutes in grand total, but more players involved in rotations, and be hell on wheels pedal to the metal during the minutes they DO get

There's 200 minutes. Yeah, guessing it looks something like 32, 32, 26, 22, 20, 20, 20, 18,10

After I just estimated the above, I went and looked at the 2024 Samford vs. Kansas NCAA tourney game:

32, 31, 31, 25, 17, 16, 14, 13, 13, 7, 2

C'mon Duke, be part of something great! This team will be different in style and I believe generate a LOT of basketball talk if it starts panning out.

It's a great story in the making- a completely depleted roster built up with a first-time Power 5 coach in the greatest conference in America, playing a guts out pedal-to-the-medal style.

I think there's a lot more opportunity for exposure AND DEVELOPMENT with Texas A&M, which will put an emphasis on not only shooting & assists, but on 94 feet of defense!

I guess it isn't technically final, but I thought he committed to UVA shortly after being let out of his NIL agreement yesterday.

He has officially been release by A&M. Somebody on premium said Billy said this wasn't about negotiating or money, but was more a case of not being happy about what he expected his role to be

Glad he has made his decision. Don't want anyone here that is going to be an issue to the team and this sounds like it had potential to be just that.

All this means is Bucky needs to make another phone call.

If I had to guess he thought he'd be a for sure starter logging 30 minutes per game, but when the other guards started coming on board he saw his minutes diminishing

If so, not the type of player we want. Need guys willing to compete and work their asses off for it

It's unreal that we have no returning guards on the entire roster and he's concerned with getting enough minutes.

Sounds like he was expecting starter minutes knowing the cupboard was empty only to realize that Bucky doesn't play that way and wasn't guaranteeing anything to him.
