A few notable bits for people that don't want to watch the video

- Haven't had a full ten players for most practices yet so not working too much on anything full court

- Dominguez "made something like 70 threes in a row" shooting - "He provides shooting but he also provides intelligence, he's played pro basketball so some of the small things, getting the ball out of his hands, knowing when to give it up early, when to get it back, he's great at all of those reads."

- Not sure how many years Dominguez is going to have (reading between the lines here sounds like he's at least been initially cleared though)

- Zach Clemence had a shoulder injury but will be practicing again soon

- Pop Isaacs should be practicing within the next month

- Jeremiah Green will be there in about a month too (unclear if he's injured or just not arriving until August)

- Still waiting on Agee's eligibility ruling. Some good news is that it sounds like they're still waiting on the initial ruling, it's not like he's already been denied and they're trying to appeal yet.

- Agee has been their best leader.

- Mgbako has "really improved" - He was probably taking too many long twos last season, he's been attacking the basket more, his points-per-shot are the best on the team in practice so far.

- Have one open roster slot, may not use it this year

Also, I love Bucky's press conferences so far. You ask a question, you get an answer. He's not turning everything into a life lesson and he's also not using press conferences like they're some kind of political theater like Calipari or some of the more theatrical coaches do.

I liked Buzz trying to guide his guys towards being better more rounded people but I have to think a lot of that stuff starts going in one ear and out the other at some point.

Yeah, it's just his whole bit. It's fine. It clearly works. Everyone buys into it.

But from an "I want to actually learn stuff about our team" standpoint in press conferences it was annoying. I don't want to have to read between the lines of his insane Buzz-isms to figure out what's actually going on.

Buzz in press conferences was like a parable. A lot of what he said wasn't literally true, you had to figure out the spirit of what he was getting at.

This team and this coach will be such a breath of fresh air from the previous. Night and day. Aggie basketball will return to being fun again and return to making sense again.

I also think it hurt the kids' marketability. Scouts, etc want to hear a little of the character stuff, but want to hear a lot more about actual basketball skills and player development, etc. So so so glad that weirdo is in the rear view….

Another thing I'll say for Bucky is he seems absolutely intensely focused on what you might call a basketball-first approach. He doesn't seem to care how the gym is decorated or what branding is on the floor. He didn't come in and start doing an extreme home makeover right out of the gate.

He seems very "give me a gym and a ball and let's get to work."

Far less concerned with the overall brand that the previous staff was.

Well, haven't reviewed names on roster, but sure seems like we have more than one open roster spot position. How many can you carry ... 15 schollies (then walkons) or is it less?

So Agee is practicing and a leader, but still an unknown if he can play (right)? Concerning, but assuming Bucky/staff/A&M pushing for his availability.

Keep hearing that Mgbako is 'improving'...wasn't he the guy that was super close to going pro with very positive scouting reports and performances (almost didn't come to A&M) and once a 5 star HS recruit? So does this mean Bucky runs a tighter eval than NBA ? Assume it means he runs a totally different system and stat eval than the NBA.

Don't disagree but how do you define "success"? To me just making the tourney this yr would be a great start but that isn't enough to "lock him down". It's hard for me to define that kind of success over say a 3 yr period other than you know it when you see it. Can't really set a clear goal of making it beyond the s16 because it's so dependent on matchups, injuries , etc that are out of his control.

Given the current success of Pearl and Oats I think he has some time to generate "lock him down" success rate here.

Not sure what you mean with Mgbako,

I took his answer to mean that he's really improved compared to the guy they saw on tape from last year. Not necessarily that he's improved in the few weeks he's been here.

Improvement for Mgbako is probably also just understanding the game better, living in a specific role, etc. than it is his shot looking better or being in better shape or whatever. The one example he talked about is that Mgbako shot too many long twos last year, and now they're really emphasizing to either shoot the three or get to the basket.

Mgbako being able to put the ball on the floor a bit would be a nice wrinkle.

Respectfully, this mindset led us to the Jimbo fiasco. I say put a solid base with incentives, and if he wins, the incentives will pay him the way he deserves to be paid, good or bad.

Another thing I don't see A&M do, granted it takes a legendary coach to do this, is get national type endorsements to supplement income for coaches/players. Think Saban with Aflac, Jordan with Nike and Gatorade, Mike K at Duke, coach prime, etc, all had deals like this. That's a level where I'd love to see us get in football or basketball coaches. One can wish!!!

The other tricky thing is uncontrollables. If he's always had a "I want to be the head coach at Bama" mentality since he was a kid, or his significant other "want to go back home to be near family", those are things that suck, and maybe you could address those concerns as an administration, but, maybe not.

The level he's recruiting at is pretty insane, and it's only going to get better. I think we'll see some of the best teams in A&M history under him down the road.

Jmo. I didn't want to see Buzz leave but I also think he didn't have enough success to extend him for the amount of time that Maryland committed to. it may end up working out better for us but only time will tell. I feel like the upside could be higher with Bucky . I can't really blame Buzz for locking in on longer term big $.

I think most saw that buzz hit his highpoint. I wouldn't say the hire was a failure. It was successful. But it wasn't enough to justify the money to keep him.

I think Bucky will play a style that will generate more fan interest esp those that aren't diehard MBB fans.

I think this could be a fun ride. But if it crashes and burn, well that's pretty much our history so it shouldn't be a huge suprise.

I don't think our "recent " history has been crash and burn. We haven't had what I'd call a failed coaching regime since Watkins - 21 yrs ago. Each head coach since then has had a fair share of success. I think this one will as well.

Yeah. I wanted Buzz. I liked Buzz.

But I had also grown exhausted with Buzz. Wasn't particularly upset he took his talents to College Park, Maryland.

I sense Marquette and Virginia Tech kinda felt the same after he left them.




I like the new guy. He's not tiring to listen to.

Bucky seems likely to bring an accessible basketball style that fans can understand without playing basketball. That could be fascinating to watch fans access his coaching and who he is. Love that he has only been a head coach and some other fans didn't think he had paid his dues…
