I'm not sure how this is even structured now, but sounds like Evan Jacobson, our new 4 star TE commit and highest rated player in Iowa HS football for the 2026 class, will be playing both football and basketball at TAMU. I couldn't find much on his hoops career, but looks like he was invited to some impressive regional and national camps. He's 6'7" and 230 pounds, as a 17 year old, and is described as a versatile wing and point forward type of player. Per his post commit interview, he did meet with Bucky and the bball program, so looks like he'll indeed have a spot on the team. He was recruited as a dual sport athlete to Stanford, Notre Dame and Iowa State as well.

Hard to find too much on his hoops background, so guessing this might get structured as a PWO type of situation, but who knows. In either case, excited to at least have him playing on the football side.

I believe a PWO is a walk on who will be offered a scholarship if he sticks with the program. Since he has a full ride with football it's not the designation. Or...I could be totally wrong.

I'll believe the next two sport star involving basketball when I see it.

Rueben Fatheree could have grabbed some offensive rebounds for Buzz

lol he was the last one that football board people swore was gonna play hoops.

I think since I've been following Aggie sports we've had exactly two football players get minutes for the basketball team and 99% of them were by Martellus.

I think Jerrod Johnson played like three minutes.

Scholarship/walkon is meaningless now. There are only roster spots for which A&M will be paying for (plus some) everybody who is filling one (or in case this pans out, two)

Only flies if the football staff is on board imo. I wouldn't mind it but I don't expect it comes to fruition. I will say this , better chance with Bucky than Buzz. If Bucky thinks he can help he'd probably consider it even if he's not part of the inner circle. Just a guess.

There could be a case for the football staff considering this is better conditioning and training for football than whatever the offseason football program is . depends on what they think his role will be on the football field. If it's got a significant blocking role then probably not

2 sport guys are an anomaly now. For that reason it would be cool to have one imo

It's just so hard if your football team is any good at all because they don't really join the basketball team until halfway through the season. Martellus Bennett was an incredible athlete, who was a legitimate basketball prospect, and even he barely got on the floor and the year he did play a little was a year our football team didn't make a bowl game.

Football people also forget how big basketball players are. I remember people talking about Mike Evans as a legit basketball player, and he was good as a high school player, but he was basically a post that was shorter than Hayden Hefner.

I agree that the chances are low that anyone will play 2 major sports at this level in today's environment.

Has nice touch from outside not much of a leaper, but not bad fundamentally.

Found this video of him.

So...Jalen Jones?

Jones is taller than Hefner and could put the ball on the floor and shoot. He'd be like… maybe a Solo the size of Manny?

I think he would've been better than Hefner and maybe a dawg. Probably a dawg.

He would have been a perfect Buzz player. All dawg. Aggressiveness set to 1,000, practically no actual basketball skills, terrible shooter, elite rebounder for his size, high level athlete. He'd rival Solo for how much he'd annoy the **** out of other teams.

Yeah I can see why he's a high level football prospect for sure.

Wonder if he's go basketball full time if he grew a couple more inches. At 6-9 or better there'd be a lot to like there.

We had a track 2 sport star that made it easy to play both sports, football and shot put.

Achane did both too. It's definitely still possible in seasons that don't overlap with each other. Seems like you see a couple of football/baseball guys every year across the country.

i am not sure of the level of competition or even seen him play basketball but i believe i read he averaged like 17-18 pts a game as a junior in high school for what that is worth.
