Well, sometimes things don't go as planned. Things just get broken. Sometimes you take a fastball to the hand. And then another. Sometimes you just accidentally build your entire athletic department over an Indian burial ground that itself was built over a portal to hell.

My 8 year old daughter has been obsessed with the Foreigner classic "I Want to Know What Love Is" for the last couple months. While y'all don't get to experience the awesome hilarity it is to hear her belt it out from the back seat, these weeks have given us all a chance to ask ourselves if we know what love truly is.

Love is stepping into the batter's box with a 3 finger batting glove and a fresh surgical wound.

Love is tuning into the selection show with nothing but a bottle of bourbon and the faint hope that maybe the committee ate some bad mushrooms this weekend

And as Aquinas and Aristotle believed, love is willing the gong of the other.

Love must be the reason that I keep following A&M men's major sports. (Either that, or craziness.)

What Jace did was extraordinary. It was a moving thing at the end of a shockingly disappointing season. I appreciate him for it.

In years past, I've only really paid attention to RPI. That part doesn't look good for us. What other metrics does the committee pay attention to? Anything that can save us? What has their formula been? Is it any different this year?

Would love to hear something like this:
"RPI ain't all it's cracked up to be. Instead, this year we put more emphasis on XYZ, and that's why we couldn't ignore what A&M did. Congrats on the 3 seed, Aggies. Let's see what you can do."

Yeah, I'm a mixture of optimist and pessimist, and as we wait on the official selections, I'm trying to be an optimist.
