Wow. I'm thrilled we won, but I feel bad for Arkansas, at the same time. They are legitimately cursed. This was their best ever team, IMO.

DVH is a great coach, but that was insane to pitch to Jared Jones. You're just asking for trouble.

Proud of the resilience this LSU team continues to show. It'll be a dogfight against Coastal, but I like our chances with Anderson and Eyanson both rested and ready to go. If Coastal can beat us 2 out of 3, they are worthy champions.

They're as f***ed in big time situations as A&M is. Maybe worse.

I'd say worse considering the amount of anti clutch they've been against A&M in football.

I blame the coach for not making it perfectly clear to the infield to turn 2 and end it. I feel bad for the Arkie LFer, I can't imagine the "oh *****" factor when he started to trip.

It will be real interesting to watch the Coastal approach versus Anderson. Super tough to string together hits against him and that's how they've lived. I'm definitely pulling for Coastal but I think y'all are setup really well.

And yes, pitching to Jones was all-time stupid. Make someone else beat you. My goodness.

If you throw Jones offspeed, he can't hit it. Coastal better take notes

It's incredible how LSU scored 3 runs with one out to defeat Arkansas 6-5 and advance to the College World Series final. LSU has won 6 consecutive games and won 4 of 5 games against Arkansas this season, including twice in the last 5 days. I hope Coastal Carolina beats LSU.

Beep boop bop.
They did it with 2 outs.

I am curious what gets said on the double play ball in the postgame. It almost feels like the short stop forgot about the runner on first and was thinking there was just a runner on second. Otherwise I don't understand it at all.
I think he was just trying to get the certain out on the lead runner in case the double play didn't work. Conservative play but not without merit, if the double play throw goes wayward or is a close play that gives the lead runner space to score.

Shortstop choked. He probably has made that pivot throw to second hundreds of times in games and in practice over the past several years. That was not a difficult play for an experienced shortstop. If I'm a pro team, that play gives me a concern about his make up. Sure it's just one play. But who can do what in critical moments is a big deal. And this was a massive choke job on his part.

Explain why Van Horn pitched to Jones. Meaningless run and base open.

the killer was the SS not going for the double play

in a 2-run game...

1st & 3rd is essentially the same as 1st & 2nd

the trail runner is the important run -- the tying run

don't care if the lead runner is on 2nd or 3rd

I can not believe how lucky LSU continues to be. You can't chalk that up to anything LSU did but everything Arkansas didn't do. 2 run lead and 1 out in the 9th should be church. Especially for a team like Ark.

Unless they made bad throws that was easy double play.. the batter wasn't even running hard to first … he was half way down the line at best about the same time the second baseman would have received the ball from the short stop! I'm sure the batter thought … well he'ck that's a double play I'm out!…. lol

don't care if the lead runner is on 2nd or 3rd

Pitching to Jones, regardless of right right v right left made no sense to me. Jones is a game changer and Pearson is just a guy.

I swear I'm getting jaded but the righty lefty thing feels like a meme at this point. Aggie baseball was littered with examples of it failing but at least we can blame a first year head coach... What is Arkie even thinking this morning?

And I know the kid who was the left fielder, that should've taken charge, that stopped and let the ball bounce 4 feet in front of him. Just wasn't in his DNA.

Wow! Wow! Wow!
Would have been an awfully long run for that left fielder.
Umm, the ball that lost them game two, of the championship series, was down the first base line, he stopped to let the 2nd baseman take it and it to fell between them, about 4 feet in front of him. He should've called them off and taken charge, but he didn't and the rest is Arkansas history.
Umm, imagine thinking the LEFT fielder would ever have a play on a ball hit down the first base line. But then here you are repeating it again LOL!
94chem
How long do you want to ignore this user?
The very last play of the game last night is why I always played 2nd base with a large glove. The first thing you have to do on defense is catch the ball, and the odds of not getting a line drive, bad throw, grounder in the hole, or a blooper over my shoulder were way higher than the odds of not getting the ball out of the glove. Players don't mess up transfers because the glove is too big. They mess them up because they're in a hurry.

I agree

But earlier in the game DVH changed pitchers for that reason. And JJ used a pinch hitter that got a hit to score their first 2 runs. So I'm sure that was in the back of DVH's mind.

Also, two batters earlier DVH made the right call using the lefty Vs Milan to make him bat right. Game should have been over if the SS starts the easy double play. Heck the 3rd baseman thought he was going to second bc he was not even thinking the ball would come to him or he maybe could have completed the double play to first in time if he's on the bag.

I get why he did it. They lost the game though bc of their players choking.

The bigger problem is if you fail to turn it, the batter can steal second, and a single ties the game. We'll never know if they would have turned it.
And if you throw to third in that situation, you have runners on first and second and a guy can hit it to the outfield to tie the game.

If you lose that game, your season is over. You have to try in that situation. You have to try.

If we could beat LSU in a three game series, Coastal certainly can.

Also, the last time Coastal came to Omaha, they did it by winning a super against LSU in Baton Rouge. It would be so beautiful. So beautiful. If they won the College World series by eliminating LSU again.

Right, if he takes out the runner at second instead of the runner at third, and davalon misses that same catch, its a lot less likely that a runner from first makes it home than the runner at second. Up until the post season, Arkansas wasn't stealing a lot of bases, so its not a given he'd steal second (succesfully)

even assuming that they fail to turn two, its still the wrong move. He got frozen and tried to make a smart/conservative decision and it cost him.

and I think Davalon could have made a smarter decision on the catch there if it was runners on the corners too.

Was Arkansas out of mound visits?? He should have made a visit if he could have after that play. (or challenged something stupid)

And to expand on that, Coastal beat Arizona in the finals to win it all in 2016, Jay Johnson was the coach of Arizona. Lots of story lines.
