A salute to “The General.”

On Monday, Texas A&M left-handed pitcher Myles Patton was selected by the Boston Red Sox in the seventh round and 208th overall.

Patton becomes the fourth Aggie off the board in the 2025 MLB Draft.

In his lone season at A&M, Patton spent 2025 as the Sunday starter in the Aggies’ lefty-exclusive weekend rotation. In 15 career starts as an Aggie, Patton was 3-5 with a 5.26 ERA and 82 strikeouts across 77.0 innings.

The junior was an inning-eater for Michael Earley & Co., averaging over 5.0 innings per start.

Patton’s best outing at A&M was his second, though he was ultimately saddled with a no-decision in a Feb. 23 loss to Cal Poly. Prior to a ninth-inning letdown, the southpaw departed after striking out eight Mustangs across scoreless seven innings while allowing just four hits and walking one.

Later in the year, Patton turned in a quality start in the rubber match of what proved to be a miraculous series victory at then-No. 1 Tennessee. On April 5, he covered six innings and allowed just three runs while scattering eight hits as the Aggies ran away with a 17-6 run-ruling of the Volunteers.

With A&M playing for its postseason life in early May, the left-hander was again solid in a six-inning start vs. eventual national champion LSU. Striking out six Tigers that Sunday afternoon, Patton left trailing 4-2, but the Aggies would get him off the hook with a four-run eighth as Blue Bell Park descended into euphoria on Caden Sorrell’s three-run home run with A&M ultimately winning 6-4.

A native of Long Beach, Calif., Patton pitched his first two seasons of collegiate baseball for his hometown Dirtbags. In 2024, he was an All-Big West Honorable Mention pick before transferring to Aggieland.

In three years of college baseball, he pieced together a 10-12 record with a 4.73 ERA in 182.2 innings.

Ryan Brauninger’s scout of Myles Patton

“A ‘know what you're getting’ type of pitcher. No offering would be considered elite, but all are plenty good enough to get outs consistently. Fastball does show a good ride/run profile as evidenced by the amount of swings it generates up in the zone, as well as how often it gets taken for punchouts. Has shown great feel and ability to adjust on the fly to fix pitch shapes throughout his career. Steady Eddie type of demeanor.”

I wish only the best for Myles in the next step of his career. I had the opportunity to visit with him at a couple of 12th Man Buffets during football season and he was very humble and well spoken. I know his season did not go as well as he had hoped, but I appreciate his efforts this past season for the Ags.
