It's not the Pac 12 of old, but still a step up for the Patriots.

I'm so excited for this. May be hitting up some DBU weekend games in the future

(Who am I kidding though. I live in Fort Worth and barely make a couple TCU games each year)

I much prefer watching games at Horner vs Lupton.

DBU is one of the very best at developing their players. Most programs do a much better job of talking about it than actually doing it. DBU is one of the exceptions. How they remain somewhat under the radar (outside of Texas) is a mystery to me. It all begins with Dan Heefner who is a highly principled man. He hires like minded people and they run their program the right way.

It's a joke to call it the PAC12

Any worse than the Big 10 or Big 12 with 16 teams each...or the Atlantic Coast Conference with teams in Texas and California? College athletics is pretty ridiculous all the way around these days.

While true, the current Pac12 genuinely does not resemble the Pac12 of old. They need to rebrand.

In theory, I agree...but there is value in keeping the logo/brand/recognition they have in place. Plus, it's a way for Oregon State and Washington State to twist the knife a little bit into the schools who left.

Plus, I think they have visions of rebuilding the conference. One of these days, the Arizona schools will get bent out of shape with the Big 12 and Stanford/Cal will get tired of flying coast-to-coast for games (read: run out of money to to so). There's always a chance schools migrate back to the league.

But yea...calling this the Pac 12 seems fairly ridiculous at this point. I guess they just want to retain the rights to the name, logo, etc.

What's the value to the league by adding DBU?

DBU will be the second best program in that league, behind only Oregon State. The other baseball playing members are Washington State, Fresno State, San Diego State, Texas State, and Gonzaga. I'm guessing the Pac will try to add more baseball members over time. A 7-team league doesn't sound all that attractive. You'd have to play a home-and-home with 4 teams in the league and a single weekend against the other 2 teams to get to a 30 game conference schedule.

Other new Pac 12 schools don't play baseball - Boise State, Utah State, and Colorado State, which means the Pac needs "affiliate" schools like Gonzaga and DBU for baseball only.

Got it. I was looking at it from a revenue generation perspective and without football.
Thanks!

Yes it's way worse. What the hell are you talking about? Stop posting but apologize first.

Why? Other than women's soccer, softball, and volleyball, what sport has the CONFERENCE had conference level success in during the last 10-15 years? A baseball title was won by a current member!

So what's the difference? I don't ignore historic titles (like UCLA basketball or USC baseball and football), but they haven't meant anything recently in terms of conference level talent and/or success. Besides, it was the Pac 8 during most of those years!

The main reason it's still the PAC12 is because WSU and OSU can keep all the conference money that the other former schools forfeited by leaving.
