First of all prayers up for Josh. I hope he is ok. At this point can we just retire the #12 jersey thing. The guys that have worn it the last couple of years deserved the honor and recognition of it but for baseball superstition sake it has felt more like a curse than a blessing. Targach 2 years ago had kind of a rough year wearing it, Schott was injured / struggled at the plate wearing it compared to '24, and now bad luck for Stewart.

It is a big honor to be chosen it just seems a little cursed lately.

Been a disaster after yr 1...not a "little cursed lately". I also blame bost"s terible song choice though for his yr.

Oh hell no. I have been suggesting it for years and it is very apparent Aggies love them some BAS. So lets keep hanging that albatross around one of top players for years to come.

I wouldn't do the jersey thing. Keep football lore at Kyle Field.

Yeh, lots of speculation on last night's thread. But no real info.

Yes it's a number for the school not baseball and whoever has worn it after Claunch has had no luck with it.
I've been saying this for years. It's stupid for baseball.

Was going to star this...but it currenlty has "12" stars. I don't want to be #13

Apparently that is better than 12 now.

We don't. But the way he was acting... Very upset, very much "not again," I think he thinks it might be bad. I hope not.

It has a Tommy John surgery feel to me.

Pure speculation, I have no more information than anyone else here. I would be thrilled to be wrong.

If you want to keep it going make the new number 10.

Agree. And the way the team reacted by appearing to be praying together afterwards. What I am hoping is it is nothing and he felt pain and immediately thought it was a catastrophic injury and it turns out to be something smaller. For an athlete who's coming back from an injury, the worst possible thing is to re-injure the area or have another injury. As someone who trains hard, when something pops, snaps or has a sharp pain that doesn't feel right, it's very disconcerting. I many times will become nauseous when I do have an injury. Likely b/c my greatest fear is the down time where I can't train. It's common with athletes. Let's hope this turns out to be something that felt bad when it happened but is minor in the long run. The fact is, something did happen. They don't take him out if it's no big deal. And that pitch he threw was nasty. I remember thinking, "oh, he's got his stuff tonight" then he hunched over.

I know the feeling... Sometimes I eat 6 tacos for lunch and then I push through for one more rep. Then my body gets very angry about that 7th taco and I fear I may not be able to eat tacos again for dinner. But usually the worry is for naught and I'm able to power through and have more tacos. Because, you know, #Athlete

Speaking for all those who dont train hard, when "something pops, snaps or has a sharp pain that doesn't feel right" it's also disconcerting. Its common with people in general.

I respect your confidence, but you will one day have to concede to the fact that the taco will eventually win.

Wait a minute so now we're blaming the number on a jersey for people's injuries and bad luck?

Which makes more sense. The 12 is for football. However, I say we should just stop doing it for baseball.

Who doesn't get a number? The pitcher or the DH?

Your point remains…

To me, the 12th man represents the Aggie Spirit, school pride, and student support, regardless of activity. For instance, I believe the 12th man can show up and support the hell outta the community through Big Event, or with their silent presence at Silver taps.

But I agree it does mostly invoke football feelings more than not.

I still don't mind it, especially if the players still support it.

The 12th man has also grown far beyond mere football lore. It's literally the representation of TAMU and specifically the school body. That's the beauty of tradition. It starts small and grows into something special.

A couple years of booboos is not enough to abandon it. And Schloss isn't Voldemort. We don't have to scream and cry and run away from everything he did just because it's him.

Not saying it is a jinx

But the person wearing it either got injured or had a career worst year when they wore it in the last 4 years (if Stewart is indeed badly hurt)

2022: Claunch - very good
2023: Bost - very down year
2024: Targac - career worst year relegated to pinch hit every now and then
2025: Schott - career worst year
2026: Stewart - battling injury

At a certain point, you've got to think it's odd at the very least

If if were offered to me I would reject it. Next to hockey goalies baseball players are some of the most superstitious humans on earth. I wouldn't touch it with a 12 foot pole.
