I like what I see from Coach Earley and this team

Not being complacent about losing this series, but the other SEC teams give out scholarships also.

Coach Earley appears to be a high character guy that is working hard and represents the university well.

Just being a good guy doesn't cut it. The team appears to play for hard for Coach Earley. When I see guys like Hacopian hobbling around but continuing to play it tells me they have bought into what the coaches are telling them.

Hopefully a good performance this year will make the program more attractive to top recruits and we can shore up weak areas. But Coach Earley is only in his second year as a head coach so I am rather optimistic about the future of the program.

The inability to consistently find and lock down more successful coaches instead of settling for nice guys who do okay will always leave us wanting more???

Coach Earley is improving some but he has to address our pitching woes in particular starting pitching. I think Coach Pennington has helped things this year but have mixed results on Coach Kelly and the direction of our pitching staff.

Schloss set the standard for National Championships. Like most I was ready to write off Earley earlier in the season, but I've loved the turn around. I think with a couple other pieces he could get us back on track for National Title contention. Getting to a Super would be real progress toward that goal as a program.

How do you say improving some?

He went from a disaster to possibly hosting a Super. Also not sure how you can decipher which coach accounted for what as you name Pennington. Earley has now poven himself in one season but before we do the Aggie thing and give him a big contract I would like to see him do it again. But my guess is we will pay the man.

Our P is on Earley. He has an NIL budget and it appears he spent it on hitting. Not sure if he truly belived in Sdao and Moss but Early may be the oppo of RC. At least offense is alot more fun to watch.

Many will blame last season on injuries but there was alot of fire power Jace, Kent, Kash that severley underperformed. Also injuries are part of the game. Good teams always find a way. with next man up mentality.

For the remainder of the season. I think we are all afraid we will get outpitched somewhere. Home field advantage could be big for this team.

We already did the Aggie thing and gave him a big contract--before he even coached a game as a HC.

Primary concern was thinking he made many decisions based on politics. Seeing Royo do what he did is not helping with those concerns.

So this is confusing to me. What decisions has Coach Earley made based on politics?

I have seen several which aligns with a players coach that is also young. Clearly you have not and that's fine.

Early addressed the problems with hitting and defense well over the summer. Pitching was a bit of a swing and a miss. We were hurt by injuries to McCoy and Stewart, but that's part of the game. He's aware that we need to get better on the mound. Hopefully, we can finish strong and build some momentum. I don't get all the folks trying to lay blame for our pitching shortcomings on Kelly. From a coaching standpoint, I think he does well with what we have, and I don't know how much of the pitching talent acquisition issues you can lay at the feet of the pitching coach; it is an important one, but far from the only one, and on that score, I'm not sure at all that Kelly is a liability.

Regarding pitching, just remember that we lost ALL 3 weekend starters from last year, lost McCoy before the season even started and lost Stewart before conference play. That is pretty difficult to overcome and I believe that Earley and Kelly have done a great job of navigating through all that.

As for Royo not getting on the field before last weekend, who exactly would you have wanted him to replace before all the injuries?? Hacopian, Kellner, ?? There is just a finite amount of ways to get a player on the field and sometimes a good player has to sit the bench until his time comes.

Harcopian has been out a lot of the season. So him obviously.

And his bat so far is night and day better than Kellner. But my guess is Early made certain promises to get players recruited and was not concerned with Royo bc of the difference left in years to play. This stuff happens but does not mean I like it.

Wasn't Royo 0-6 before his remarkable day on Saturday?

You can tell everything by a guys first 6 ABs. Especially when there spread out across 5 games. Also it was 0-4 not 0-6. They do say pinch hitting is one of the easiest things to do in baseball.

0-2 vs Penn
0-0 vs Lamar with BB and R scored
0-1 vs Incarate Ward with RBI
0-0 vs GA
0-1 vs Ole Miss

Wilson started the season 2-13 by the way.

My point was Keller has had a pretty good season but has struggled more recently. A lot of the TexAgs recliner experts have decided because of a phenomenal two games by Royo he should have the starter all along.
Agryan00
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Agree. He had a big weekend but that does not make him a starter. Just earns more PT.

Although, I agree with LB12MEEN that Earley made promises and that is why Royo never got a chance. Royo was 0.260 hitter last year with 10hrs and 34 RBIs last year which should of earned him more opportunities earlier in the season, at least over guys like Chestnut and Farr when Harcopian went down. Also he should of got some looks at DH as Earley circulated through Jordan, Binderup, and Kiel. If Royo played well what was Earley going to with him. Bench Kellner and take a risk Kellner is somewhere else next year?

Very few are going to exceed on 6 plate appearances over 5 games. Pinch hitting is one of the hardest things to do in baseball.
TXAGBQ76

Agreed.
Jordan was brought here as the DH and started but pretty good, injuries have kept him out of consistent playing time.
I love Kiel, his enthusiasm, speed and is apparently a great teammate. Isn't he hitting really low in SEC play?
Binderup has down ok defensively and is a very streaky hitter- but when he is on…

I was a heavy critic of Earley but I'm coming around and have my plate of crow warming in the toaster (which I would be GLAD to eat). I wanted the run from 2024 to continue, and I was naive to think it would "just happen". I mean that is the way baseball go, right? While we're certainly not back to the 2024 level, we are much closer now than we were in the disastrous, embarrassing 2025 season.

On the offense side, we've been pretty healthy most of the season, which were not in 2025. So that helps.

Losing McCoy and Stewie really sucked and made our lack of pitching depth show. Lyons and especially Corn have filled in nicely, but it would be nice to have another reliable bullpen arm.

I think LSU is a clear example of what can happen in baseball although there have been others. Great players don't always = great success in this sport. Even with a HOF coach much less a newbie.

Earley looks like he's grown a great deal from last year and it's continued through this season. The pitching this year has been an issue but I think he (and I'm sure Kelley) have done a pretty good job getting the most out of what we have to work with. The setup to maximize our chances to get 2 of 3, if not 3 of 3, of each series has been near masterful in my mind.

Honestly I think he mishandled Lyons this weekend against Ole Miss and he pulled Sims early for reasons that are still unclear

There are always in the moment decisions that will be questionable. The biggest on the weekend was the Jordan pinch hit. Agree on Lyons also. But conceptually, I think our pitching rotation has made us competitive. Even the last two series could have gone our way with a few key hits.

It's been a good step forward. The pitching HAS to improve and needs to figure out how to get his teams to not peak too early - we'll see how this weekend goes in that regard.

I thought he was in the bottom 3 of SEC coaches. I wouldn't classify that as a big contract.

I don't agree there are always questionable decisions. Say what you want about POS but I rarely remember in the moment disagreeing or not understanding why he made decisions when he did, even if they didn't work out I at least could see the thought process

strangely enough...

one of the best things Earley and his staff have done compared to last year...

is finding a way to always win at least one game each weekend

it makes such a huge difference to go 1-2 vs. 0-3

My biggest concern with Earley is that he hasn't made the leap from outstanding assistant to all around team manager.

Earley was a great hitting coach. That is the strength of this team and they have been tops in the league. The pitching has been mediocre or below average for two years. Recruiting in that area has been underwhelming (maybe some guys will develop, but the "stuff" seems to be unremarkable). Everyone has gaps, but he should hire to fill those gaps. Hoping he moves on from JK, but this seems to still be a huge gap in his management abilities.

I don't like what I'm seeing because it means I have to deal with my own personal shortcomings instead of bloviating on a college sports board, running down another man's work which probably is no worse than my own, as a form of coping and defense mechanism.
