Not surprised. Losing two consecutive conference series (one at home) hurt. And with MSU on the horizon, I'm pretty sure the pollsters recognize that our path to even 2nd place in the conference is highly unlikely.

At this point just host a Regional and win our way to Omaha. Still a great year compared to expectations in Feb.

This. We are who we are, and who we are will play out on the field. If pitching gains some consistency still confident we can make a deep run in Omaha.

That is a HUGE if. Sorry, but I don't see that happening in a best of 3 SR

That's still more than general expectations at the beginning of the season.

I know it is partially based on who won and who lost, but WV in the Top10 is a joke replacing Kansas which was a joke.

West Virginia's resume: currently 18th in RPI with a respectable 8-4 in Q1 games and 13-9 in Q1/Q2 games. However, once you dig deeper you see that their Q1 games are all made up by road series against the RPI 21, 22, 35, and 48 RPI teams. They lost the series against #21 Cincinnati, swept #22 Kansas, and took 2 of 3 against both #35 Liberty and #48 Arizona St. They also lost a home series against #33 UCF and a home Tuesday match against #45 Pittsburg. #67 Baylor makes up their next best series win.

In short, WV's resume is propped up by sweeping an over ranked Kansas team and a 19-8 Big XII conference record.

Kansas, who was in the Top 10 prior to being swept by WV has fallen to RPI #22. Their resume is bolstered by a home and away Tuesday sweep of Nebraska as well as taking 2 of 3 against both #21 Cincinnati and #27 Oklahoma State.

Both teams are propped up in the RPI by playing their "best" opponents on the road and having nice records against a weak Big XII conference.

The Aggies have played 18 games against teams with RPI of 20 or better with 3 still remaining and have a 8-10 record against those teams. Kansas has played 5 and is 2-3. West Virginia has yet to play a top 20 RPI team.

Florida State, Southern Miss, and Oregon State are tough to evaluate

the SEC is hoping the committee doesn't rate them too high

It's really pointless , but ranking in college sports is based on who has the fewest losses regardless of competition/ strength of schedule. Every year there is at least 1 small football school with an undefeated schedule playing nobody that gets WAY too much support for the playoffs when everyone knows they would have multiple losses in any decent conference. It's the same for baseball…maybe basketball is a bit more rational…but it is what it is.

Bias is real! Gotta make sure whats left of the 12 has some representation. 6 spot jump by beating Kansas?

Coastal dropped like rock. KU swept at home plus a run rule and only fell 7 spots. Coastal loses 2 of 3 on the road and drops 12. Who did they piss off?

Oregon St jumps 3 spots for sweeping a team with a 245 RPI.

This poll reaks of credibility.
