College Football, oh the sport that brings us constant pain and suffering. Big pass for me! I rather watch Aggie Volleyball today! Our undefeated Texas A&M Volleyball team will play its 3rd game of the season this afternoon and the latter part of a back to back against the Central Arkansas SUGAR BEARS! What a name! Last night our ladies took down Rice in a 3-0 sweep, 25-16, 25-13, 25-18. Rice was selected first overall in the preseason American conference and is currently receiving votes in the top 25. However, it was smooth sailings in the Tudor Fieldhouse for our ladies in maroon.
While no significant stat line pops out of the box score, it was a well rounded game for our team. Waak distributed the ball around the court. Stowers and Lednicky led the way, but our defense was on fire. Our block showed up and shutdown Rice's outstanding hitters. We had 9 total blocks and slowed Rice down. Our back row played extremely well. The duo of Ava Underwood and Addi Applegate dug up so much last night. Rice had a tough time getting any offense going.
The Rice announcers were blown away by our offense and seemingly could not fathom how hard we hit some balls. It seemed as if every time Cos-Okpalla or Perkins were set, the announcers just threw their hands up and called it a point for Texas A&M. Those twos showed. why you can't put all your focus on Logan Lednicky or our pins. Additionally, Kyndal Stowers impressed as well. Like Morrison alluded to all offseason, Stowers vertical and power were on display. The volleyball world is slowly beginning to remember just how lethal Stowers can be.
Now after our 2nd game, the ladies have a quick turnaround to face the Sugar Bears! Central Arkansas returns a strong team that finishes 13-3 in the ASUN last year. They also return the conference setter of the year in #6 Caylan Koons. Additionally, they also had 2 other players chosen on their conference preseason list, as well as the ASUN preseason defensive player of the year in libero in 4 year starter in #22 Alexis McDaniel. Their offense last season relied heavily and primarily on the arm of outside hitter #1 Laci Bohannan who had 350 kills a season ago. They also only return one middle blocker and Texas A&M isn't the offense you want to face in your first collegiate start lol. Aside from the 3 mentioned and middle #20 Greyson Button, they don't return many key pieces from last years team. It will also be match one for the Sugar Bears and like Rice, maybe playing a top ten team game 1 will be rough lol.
We should come out looking like the much better team. I believe another sweep should happen, but we have to always bring our A game. We had 4 aces last match, with 2 coming from Ifenna Cos-Okpalla. The crazy thing is that she didn't even serve last year. Now she looks like she can be a weapon from the service line. I hope for more aces and more tough serving to keep UCA out of system and continuously handing us freebies. Hopefully it's a quick match and our ladies can return home and make it to tonight's football game! Their dresses and boots are waiting for them in their lockers (they actually are, they posted about it lol). Again if you're in the Houston area try to head out and support and enjoy some Aggie Volleyball before tonights football game!
