On the road again. Our undefeated and top ten Fightin' Texas A&M Volleyball team travels to the state of Utah for a two game road trip. They will kick things off with a ranked matchup vs #21 Utah ON NATIONAL TV. ESPN2 will stream the ranked match and will be great exposure our program and our ladies!
Utah is 3-0 as well after playing 3 straight matches at home last weekend. They beat #24 Dayton 3-0 before sweeping Lafayette College and Washington State. This will be their 4th straight match at home and 4th straight road game. The Aggies will be tested against a strong Utah team in a good environment.
Utah is led by Honorable Mention All American and 2025 AVCA National Player of the Watchlist member #18 Karmyn Gibaldo, who. spent the summer with the U21 team and was and was a Big 12 first team selection last year. She's off to an excellent start this season with a staggering 53 kills in 3 matches. 5.3 kills per set. Their offense which is ran by returning setter #3 Isabelle Marco, is run primarily through Gibaldo. Gibaldo is also hitting over .400 as well. They key to beating Utah is slowing her down with tough serving and a strong block.
Utah isn't really a strong serving team which should benefit us. In their 10 sets, they only have 9 aces to 16 service errors. They don't commit many. service errors, so hopefully we can capitalize on their serving and stay in our system and pass well. Defensively they return a 2nd team middle blocker in #2 Emrie Moae'i. They added 9 new faces to their roster with 6 freshman and 3 transfers. Their freshman middle #1 Lana MIjajic and OH #16 Devyn Wiest will see the court plenty for them.
For us this will be a great test to prove how strong our team and provide an opportunity for us to remind the volleyball world why we're a top ten team. Our ranking dropped from 9 to 10 after a 3-0 start to the season. Last time out we needed 5 sets to beat Central Arkansas after Jamie sat Logan Lednicky and Kyndal Stowers the first 3 sets. A humbling moment for the 9th ranked team. Now it'll be time to bounce back on national television against a very strong opponent. We'll need our service game and block to show up plenty. They run most of their offense through Gibaldo, so we must slow her down to leave Salt Lake with a win!
Our defense must be stout and we must use a strong block to slow down Gibaldo. We need strong games from Ava Underwood and Addi Applegate in the back row and better first touches all around. Hopefully we can clean up our serving as well. Our goal is to serve tough and push our opponents, but the service error are stacking. We've played one more set as Utah and have the same amount of aces, with 15 more service errors. In even matchups, that could be the difference.
Along with the service error, let's hope we can pass well enough to stay within our system and do what we do best and that's use our versatility and many options. They don't have a seriously strong block so we need to attack and move the ball around the court. I expect Cos-Okpalla and Perkins to have a big day offensively if we can set them.
Let's show the volleyball world what Aggie volleyball is all about on national television and let's BTHO utah!
