Really hope underwood figures it out. It's been a little hard watching her inconsistencies. She left about 10-12 digs out there just from reading things slowly.

But….. the firepower this team has is amazing. Waak with 57 assists. 5 players in double digit points. Blocking was very solid. There is not a single rotation a team can take off against this team.

Get nosed out by Roger Bannister in a mile race!

All the pieces are there. If the defense including Underwood can find their groove like they did towards the end of last season, we will be very good.

This team will go as far as its serve receive will let it. Good on Taylor for subbing in for Stowers early and stabilizing it a bit.

A few things I noticed. Hellmeuth has an elite cross court shot….. but there was a point in the first set she was blocked 3 or 4 points straight. It's a very predictable swing. She adjusted with the tip and killed Utah State.

Stowers struggled most of the game, but she's getting her feet wet again so I'd prefer her rip it than play the slow game. I like how he brought Taylor in and immediately produced.

Still think we do not set our middles enough. There are some balls that are perfect passes going to a pin. For instance, when you're trailing Utah State, would you rather set your OH that got blocked 3-4 times in a row, or set your middle that is 5 for 7 with no errors(at that point in the match)

Did Waak feel a little off today (despite her incredible assists number)? Maybe the Waak/Stowers connection isn't quite there yet especially if Waak is off a bit.

I don't know if Waak is calling the plays but there are certainly long spells of no middle sets and then once we start doing that, we light it up. Setting the middles keep the opposing middle honest. They can't cheat to the pins. Would have opened up Hellmuth more on her crosscourt shots.

On the flip side, I did notice that we were very late several times in getting the middle to block UtahSt's OH when it was pretty obvious they favored the OH over their middles. Did not like seeing a solo blocker on the pin when our defense wasn't strong tonight.

I took a look at the stats...
Man, am I being too critical? Every hitter above 0.350. Waak with 57 assists. Lots of blocks and aces...

I totally get you, it did not feel like an efficient night whatsoever lol. I was surprised also. I think we got so many kills when we were in system. We weren't hitting many errors when it felt passing was bad, I think we just sent too many freebies over.

Everything just felt off cause we were awful in serve receive for a stretch

But in a way if we can still put teams away with not the best first touch. I feel like we still have room to grow and improve on! SMU and TCU will require us to play a lot better so I'm excited to see how we perform.

Yes, her set location was very off. Seemed like she consistently trapped our hitters, mainly our pins. There was no reason their setter should have touched as many hits as she did.

I question the stat sheet a bit, because Hellmeuth hit straight into solo blocks a few times, and those are errors. I think she had more errors than what was represented. She got stuffed by the 5-8 setter a few times

Did they win the point on the block? I think an error is only if you lose the point on your swing (getting blocked or hitting out/into the next)?

Yeah, Hellmeuth(from what I remember) got solo stuffed by the setter 2 or 3 times. I could be remembering wrong, but she does not see the block well. She just can hit some extreme angles
