New London's Tyree Wilson was a late bloomer, but since growing into his 6-foot-6 frame he has turned into a force to be reckoned with. Jimbo Fisher was able to keep his commitment as a part of his first A&M recruiting class, and Wilson has the talent to blossom into a feared SEC West pass rusher.

NEW LONDON, Texas — Signs and monuments that commemorate championships captured or boasting as the home of a star athlete are common in East Texas towns.

Not in New London, though.

A beautiful granite monument stands across the street from West Rusk High School, but it’s there to remember lives lost rather than championships won. Few living west of Tyler may even know of the existence of New London, a town of 998 about 10 miles south of Kilgore.
