Facts

The rumors were palpable, after all.
Buzz Williams is set to be named the next head basketball coach at the University of Maryland after six seasons at Texas A&M.
The news was first reported by CBS’s Jon Rothstein on Tuesday.
ESPN’s Pete Thamel later reported that Williams has finalized a six-year deal with Maryland.
TexAgs’ Billy Liucci confirmed that the move is expected from the Texas A&M but with no official word as of 1 p.m. CT.
Texas A&M Director of Athletics Trev Alberts released a statement regarding Williams’ departure at 1:01 p.m. CT:
Tuesday’s news comes after Maryland’s Kevin Willard left the Terapins for Villanova two days ago following a run to the Sweet 16 in the 2025 NCAA Tournament.
Further, Williams becomes the second A&M men’s basketball coach to ditch College Station for College Park, mirroring a move made by Mark Turgeon in 2011.
Despite three consecutive trips to the Big Dance with A&M, Williams and the Aggies never reached the second weekend of March Madness.
In 2024-2025, Williams led the Maroon & White to a 23-11 overall record and an 11-7 mark in the vaunted Southeastern Conference. Highlights from his sixth and final season in College Station include the program’s first-ever upset of an AP top-ranked team with a March 4 win over Auburn at Reed Arena. Additionally, senior guard Wade Taylor IV, who had his No. 4 jersey added to the Reed Arena rafters after the Auburn victory, set the A&M scoring record in the regular-season finale at LSU.
However, after a first-round win over Yale, Williams and the Aggies were eliminated by No. 5 seed Michigan in the Round of 32 on March 22. As the No. 4 seed in the South Region, A&M blew a 10-point second-half lead in a 91-79 loss to the Wolverines.
Earlier in his time at A&M, Williams’ Aggies played for the SEC Tournament title twice and finished second in the SEC’s regular-season standings in 2022-23.
Originally introduced to the 12th Man on April 4, 2019, Williams arrived after a five-year stint at Virginia Tech, where he took the Hokies to the Sweet 16 in 2019.
That kind of postseason success did not follow him to Aggieland despite being a top-20 paid coach in college basketball.
Williams finishes his Texas A&M tenure with a 120-73 record. His Aggies were 2-3 in the NCAA Tournament.
More to come shortly.

For those glad to see him go, there is a WAY better chance we will be even worse over the next 5-6 years. I suppose there is hope though. Something we are always banking on.

Buzz ball is dead! Hallelujah!!!
Great leader of men. Average to good coach. Offense was putrid. Defense was good.jwh99 said:
I was pumped to get him here and wish it would have worked out better, especially this year. Overall, I think he is a great leader of men, but probably best to have a change at this point.

This is going to turn out to be move that makes everyone happy. 2 teams are going to get better at the same time and I say that without knowing who we are going to hire. Weird confidence that we'll get a decent hire. lol. Having Buzz here when he was actively looking wasn't good for anyone.
And his spiel about hitting the recruiting trail as soon as the portal opened was just like Schloss' statements. They knew they were leaving and just say crap to get people thinking that they aren't....

I remember all the excitement on this board when Buzz was being considered and then offered the HC job.
So another HC has come and gone and the program has really not improved that much.
Who we gonna get excited about now?
Got to ask the hard question...is A&M really a mens Basketball school?

We're not football, baseball, or basketball.
What's left?
