Tallen Edwards shines as Aggies blank Bobcats in fall exhibition, 3-0

A few newcomers flashed as Texas A&M softball beat Texas State in a seven-inning exhibition on Friday night at Davis Diamond, 3-0. Oklahoma State transfer Tallen Edwards had a stellar night at the dish, going 3-for-3 with two RBI in the Aggie win.

Another early display of Trisha Ford's fourth-year squad is in the books.

Tallen Edwards’ 3-for-3 night powered Texas A&M to a 3-0 win over Texas State at Davis Diamond on Friday night.

A Golden Glove winner last season at Oklahoma State, the transfer introduced herself to the 12th Man quite nicely.

A low-scoring affair from the start, Edwards’ two-run double increased the Aggie lead in the sixth inning.

Edwards was not the sole newcomer the Maroon & White relied on vs. a quality Texas State team.

Missouri transfer pitcher Taylor Pannell found herself in a sixth-inning high-pressure situation with a runner on third and the Sun Belt Player of the Year in the box.

Former A&M infielder Aiyana Coleman worked a walk, and a threat looked imminent. That was until freshman catcher Maddie Sauni gunned down a pinch runner at second.

Outside of the newcomers, a couple who donned an Aggie uniform last year stood out as well.

Through four innings of work, righty Sidne Peters was efficient in the circle. Coming off an injured sophomore campaign, she filled up the zone, only allowing one hit and a free base runner.

She also quieted Texas State’s most lethal power hitter in Coleman, who hit for .421 last spring.

For the Bobcats, Sun Belt First-Teamer Maddy Azua got the start, not allowing a run in her opening two innings.

It wasn’t until the fourth frame that the Aggies drew blood.

Expected to take on a bigger role during the 2026 season, sophomore Frankie Vrazel plated the game’s first run with an RBI double.

A superstar freshman a year ago, KK Dement went 1-for-3 with a walk, but never crossed home plate. The Aggies left four runners on base on Friday night.

Grace Sparks saw work in the fifth inning, giving up a double on her first batter faced. Yet, the senior recovered quickly, shutting down the bottom of the lineup.

Sparks, Pannell and Peters all gave up a hit in their respective appearances, but never allowed the visitors to plate a run.

Despite the versatility of the 2026 roster, Ford presented a more consistent lineup, allowing her position players to get reps in the same spot all seven innings.

Continuing its fall slate, the Aggies will travel to Austin to face in-state rival Texas in an exhibition next Friday.
