On Tuesday, Texas A&M head soccer coach G Guerrieri officially announced his retirement after 33 seasons in Aggieland.
“First, I want to thank all of our players – from the current team and the prior 32 teams – for their commitment, dedication and amazing contributions on and off the field,” Guerrieri said via a release. “I’ve had the pleasure to work with some of the best human beings you’ll ever come across. That includes my gratitude for being able to work alongside incredible coaches and support staff. This year, Alyssa (Bower), Curt (Magnuson), Seth (Taylor) and Tim (Strader) were tremendous to work with, and they all have bright futures in soccer leadership positions and in life.
“I’ve said many times I’m the luckiest guy you know. I’m so grateful for the leaders I’ve been around in my time in Aggieland, going back to being hired by John David Crow, Lynn Hickey and Wally Groff through decades of change and growth at Texas A&M to the present day and Trev Alberts. But none of our success or accomplishments would be possible without the loving support of my wife Terri, and my Aggie kids – Emily, Alan and Conner.”
A program pioneer and the only head coach in the program’s 33-year history, Guerrieri’s contract expired following a 5-7-5 campaign in which the Aggies failed to reach the SEC Tournament.
At 2-6-2 and with eight points, the 2025 Ags finished 13th in the Southeastern Conference and missed the postseason for the second consecutive year and just the third time since 1995.
In 33 years as A&M’s head soccer coach, Guerrieri compiled a 507-180-58 overall record, won 18 conference titles and appeared in 28 NCAA Tournaments.
With Guerrieri and the helm, the Aggies transformed from an upstart program into one of the nation’s elite sides, as A&M is currently the only SEC program with more than 500 victories. Additionally, the Aggies have been to 16 trips to the Sweet Sixteen, seven Elite Eights and the 2014 NCAA Women’s College Cup.
“We are incredibly grateful for everything that Coach G has built and accomplished at Texas A&M,” Director of Athletics Trev Alberts said. “Coach G brought Aggie soccer to national prominence through more than 30 years as the head coach, making a number of NCAA Tournament runs and claiming nearly 20 conference championships. His impact on Aggieland will always be felt, even beyond all of his accomplishments on the field. His teams have seen great success in the classroom and beyond. He has helped many Aggies achieve their dreams and impacted countless lives around the sport of soccer.”
First winning the Big 12 double in 1997, Guerrieri led A&M to 10 regular-season conference championships (1997, 2002, 2004-2007, 2010, 2013, 2014, 2020) and eight conference tournament crowns (1997, 2001, 2004, 2005, 2011, 2013, 2014, 2017).
Since coming to College Station to start the program in 1993, Guerrieri has been honored as a conference Coach of the Year on five different occasions (Big 12 in 1997 and 2002; SEC in 2013, 2014 and 2020). With a 4-1 win at Florida on Oct. 27, 2022, Guerrieri became just the fifth NCAA Division I women’s soccer coach to win 500 games in a career. In September of 2024, he guided A&M to its 500th victory in program history with a 1-0 decision at Missouri.
Texas A&M is officially searching for its second soccer coach in school history.
