It has been super frustrating that we have not been able to break through the Western Conference the past three years, but the club is not going to blow it all up when they've been to the Conference Finals three years in a row mostly on the back of a fairly young core group of players.

They've been able to keep that core group while adding a huge piece in Rantanen. With the cap about to shoot up the next two years, they'll continue to be able to make some moves for those part pieces that might add a little speed and some of those tools that will help us take the next step. At least that's how I see it.

It was Seth Jones' day with the Cup today. He took it by the Stars Center at Valley Ranch, played a round of golf, then took it to the Katy Trail Ice House.

I like a lot of things about the roster and a lot of players, especially the Fins. They play tough, disciplined hockey. We have a few too many finesse players and not enough toughness, which is why DeBoer's hard approach was good for us.

Hopefully, Bischel can add even more toughness next year and the playoff culture statements by Glen weren't just lip service. Robertson has gotten tougher in the playoffs each year, so injury certainly could be a good excuse for this year. He is a great talent. The trick at forward is becoming the best two way forward one can become, like Roope.

Kiviranta is a free agent again, and I would love to see us bring him to camp on a minimum contract.

Keep in mind, he was injured going into the season and was injured going into the playoffs. When healthy, he is elite.




You can put guys on a line with him to cover what minor deficiencies he has. They need to get an extension done.

But can we get away paying him closer to Mikko money than $8M a year? I would have a hard time going much past $8M.

Considering the cap is going up, and his new deal won't kick in until next season (when the cap goes up again), he's easily due 8 figures. It's not even a question. He's already making close to $8.

The size of contracts are about to go up big time, and that's just reality. I mean just look at the league minimum. It's going up 30% over the next 4 years. McDavid is going to sign a new deal in the next year worth at least $3M more than he's making now. No way Robo isn't due a huge raise. $10-11M seems fair.

I'm hoping he'll take closer to 10, but I'm sure he's wanting a Rantanen sized deal (which again isn't apples to apples because of the cap). We just have to have room for Harley + some for next offseason.

You aren't signing Robo to anything close to $8M when an unproven Stankoven is getting $6M for 8 years.

10M is the floor for Robo.

I'm a few weeks late on this story, but apparently Carter Hart and the other Canada Junior players were found not guilty in their trial. You think someone from the NHL signs him?

They weren't just found not guilty, but the judge basically said the whole thing was a sham and it was a shame that charges were even brought.

That said, basically the same thing happened to Trevor Bauer, and he still wasn't touched by an MLB team. Once the made up story is brought to the public, the damage is done.

Will certainly help with the physicality that Gulutzan has been preaching. Don't get me wrong, Bastian isn't necessarily "tough" but he'll play physical.
I was asking myself why would they do this, but it makes sense. He is an upgrade to the 4th liners you already had signed, and you need a 13th forward. Now, on any given night that could be Back, Blackwell, or Bastian. With Steel likely playing up in the lineup, a 4th line with Faksa and Bastian has the makings of a great shutdown line.

Have we heard anything about the new 3rd jersey? I've read they are retiring the blackouts but I haven't seen what is replacing them.

The blackouts were released in late October the year they came out, so we may not see anything until after the season starts. Surprisingly little to no intel on a new 3rd jersey. There was an order form circulating online from Fanatics a while back with a 3rd jersey option, but it didn't have a photo.

They did just release the promo night schedule and this popped up.


Speculation that we may see a new retro jersey.

Seems like the Rangers have kept our attention through most of September. RIP 2025 Texas Rangers.

Maybe some fan hangover after losing in conference finals 3 years in a row? I'll be ready once that first true cool front rolls in and the DST ends.

For those of you who actually follow the team and aren't mere fans, did we do anything this offseason to close the gap with Edmonton?

There won't be any drop off with hard-core Hockey fans. They are always there.

As for Edmonton, we took one of their long time coaches who knows them better than anyone and we have Mikko permanently while our younger superstars have another year under their belts. If we can stay injury free, no reason we get back to the WCF and beyond. All pundits have already put us in the playoffs.
