yeah efff all of you who think we should drop everything to go to basketball games now. Where were you 3 years ago? I seriously doubt you were all attending a&m basketball games over anything else. I know what you are thinking 'Where was ol' terradactyl 3 years ago?' And I can tell you that I was at the same place then that I will be at now......

what is this supposed to mean? because there weren't many there 3 years ago its ridiculous to expect support now?

I was at every home game behind the bench during 0-16, in part to support my buddy Marcus, I remember getting ready to storm the court for breaking the goose egg before we lost to Baylor in OT, I could tell you everything about that season

but that has nothing to do with being bitter because basketball has become more successful than the mess that is our football program today, and I'm not just talking about on the field

that's just it...in football, nobody is leaving...just calling for a new coach...

It's good to know that since B-ball wasn't a tradition it can not become one now.

how am I supposed to respect something that is trying to represent an amazing tradition when it is blatantly belittling another program?

It's also good to know that because of a single accident, an amazing tradition is gone forever, and can't simply be preserved in a smaller, more "back to the original" form...

I don't want to get into this nonsense, because it's a no-win situation for me.

If you go to the basketball game, thats great. if you go to Bonfire, thats great too. both make you a good Ag.

However, there is no reason to put other Ag's down who have worked countless hours (for no pay) attempting to keep a beloved tradition alive. they could have been out partying, but instead they were working through the night to make something the Ol' Ags would be proud of.

I still can't believe it everytime im out there.

Thanks.

more than 200 students showing up for a bball game is a new tradition

Ada, Aggies have been attending Aggie basketball games for decades. I wouldn't call it a "new" tradition.

And I agree with Walton, there is no reason to put down Bonfire, just because it isn't officially sanctioned by the university.

I don't think any explanation is necessary.

And I'm not putting it down. Just don't plan on seeing me there.

I am pretty sure that bonfire is showing school spirit, therefore not thumbing noses at the school..because that would be illogical.

you going to back this up?

...or make empty threats that don't make sense on the internet?

Are there other 'events' or traditions intended to show school spirit that are as controversial?

(honest question)

I'm guessing Brian was just implying that this sounds very close to belittling of what happened... I'm guessing that because it's how it came across to me.

Ring dunking is not allowed on NorthGate anymore, I don't know if that shows school spirit though

Yes - Im sure you didnt mean it that way - I was just saying it is a delicate issue for many - including myself.

To say it was a "single" accident is a little too simplistic and understates the imporatnce IMO.
TexasRebel

You wouldn't believe that it very well may have meant more to me that day...and if you think you might believe it, send me an email(in the profile) and I'll tell you about it.

It was a single accident. One of a few, some I remember, some I don't. 1994 was a similar accident, but circumstances were very fortunate and the result was different.

This is in no way belittling what happened...but it is also not exalting what happened. Find whatever similarity in this that you will, but I recently had a friend of the family pass due to a car accident on FM 60 between CS and Snook...his family hurts, my family hurts, but we all still drive...we even still drive that stretch of road...if nothing else just a little more cautious around the curves.

There are similarities and differences, that's what makes it an analogy...if you don't get it...butt out.

I didn't mean any disrespect. There are many who lost people they were close and personal friends with - I didn't lose anyone of that capacity. As you may be able to tell it was my freshman year on campus. I understand your analogy - I just don't agree that we are talking about the same thing (car accident and bonfire).

Either way - I respect your opinion and I apologize if I came across wrong.

This thread makes me sad that so many will never know what Bonfire was about.

IT....was greatness.

But yall are saying that bonfire decided 'hey lets make it burn the same day as an aggie basketball game, that way we' ?

that's how it came across to me too...and although you didn't finish this question (?) I think it's the same thing in my mind.

The OP makes it sound like Student Bonfire looked up the basketball schedule and said "this looks like a good thing to conflict with".

When in fact, it probably had more to do with folks being able to attend Burn, and then get back to town and gather at the polo fields by 2:42 the next morning. All the while, not interfering with anyones family/Thanksgiving plans.

you mean back on 12-31-05?

Not to my knowledge. I have my suspicions, and I'm sure others have theirs...all i know for sure is who didn't.

My alibi puts myself and a large number of those that were involved with that mess at the Dixie Chicken and then a friend's house that night...woke up to phone confused and concerned phone calls on 1-1-06...it was that day we recognized how much of a mess things were and vowed an overhaul. It may or may not have been apparent, but things were drastically different by 11-21-06, and should the burn ban in Robertson County stay in effect through 11-17-07, you will notice a difference.

I am just praying for rain and hoping that the supporters of Student Bonfire and Bonfire in general will understand the circumstance should things be postponed.
