Attending Bonfire... too many hours of hard work put in to not go...

Even if there is a burn ban, i'll go stare at stack and imagine it burning this saturday.

In any event, that seems very hippocritical unless you make every effort to attend all the Aggie sporting events.

How many women's basketball games do you attend? Volleyball? Soccer? Baseball? Softball? Track and field? Tennis?

Ever went out to watch an Aggie team play club sports?

After all, you can't be so truly gung ho that you can't go to bonfire because of a basketball game, if you skip other sports for reasons that don't pertain to must dos like class and study.

Or this bonfire shouldnt have FTA attached to it. The university disagrees with its existance, yet everyone thinks creating it is doing a service to the aggie spirit. In my opinion it is a disgrace not only to what Bonfire used to be, but a slap in the face of the school the bonfire is created to represent. My father was a yell leader in the 70s, he lit the 78 bonfire, and the only day i have seen him cry was back in 99. He has asked me not to promote or go to the off campus burn, and i seem to trust his and the universities views, more than some 18-22 year olds that never saw a REAL FTA Bonfire (ok prob like 75 percent never saw one)

I doubt it's by choice. when Bonfire was sanctioned, I'm sure that there wouldn't have been a conflict at all (however, since I'm younger, I'm not 100% positive, someone correct me if I'm wrong). since Bonfire is not sanctioned, the Yell Leaders are actually not allowed to attend Bonfire, at least not in a Yell Leader capacity. so I wouldn't use the presence or absence of the Yell Leaders to determine which event Aggies "should" go to. when I was an RA, I was not allowed to attend Bonfire in a "Reslife" capacity and had to go on my own time. even so, Reslife wasn't happy with me.

What would the university do if everyone protested their interference by attending in their official capacity?

I dunno. in my case, it could be as minor as a slap on the wrist, and as major as being fired. Reslife sent out a letter in the fall of 2004 to all staff threatening termination if we were to work on Bonfire, even on our own personal time. of course, I raised a big stink about it, in 2004 and 2005. Luke Cheatham (sp?) would have LOVED it if an RA got fired for working on Bonfire (he was an RA himself) because he could have sued the University for that. some even went so far to suggest that I be that RA 2 years ago.

Cheer - the Year I was an RA my Hall Director knew I was involved and was planning on going so she scheduled me on duty on purpose to keep me in the dorm.

Of course, you knew how she was, so does that really surprise you??

Poser bonfire or new sport that ags like to support due to our lack of a respectable football team....hmmmm thank God I graduated, for the record I'm a supporter of off campus bonfire. I find it funny that it has come to this though...basketball over football tradition...in Aggie land??? Que Pasa??

He was in B-1 but he was also a yell leader all 4 years, class of '74, and a redpot.

A lot of real Aggies put a lot of effort into trying to prolong the Bonfire tradition. To me, it's a legacy that the kids who died building the '99 Bonfire would have wanted. This thread is an insult. Basketball is a fairly new phenom at TAMU. It's been a long time since it was a factor here. Either way, people who care about both events should not be mocked for choosing their what is most important to them.

No. He was a yell leader his freshman, sophmore, junior, and senior year.

I get that question alot though.

They must have changed it my fish year (1972-1973).

I'm sure I would have heard some grumbling over doing away with fish and pisshead yell leaders.

I am pretty sure he was either the last or second to last. He only tried out for yell leader so that he would get out of morning pt.. I guess by the time he graduated he was really glad he did!

I don't understand why being a Yell Leader would get him out of anything like that. If anything, it seems like the pissheads should be tougher on him to make sure he was sharp enough to be worthy of being a Yell Leader.

The only way I knew to get out of morning formation was to be a Duncan Volunteer.

It was just for the tryout...it might have been afternoon, I'm not sure, I've been told the story so many times that after a while I stopped listening.
