I am sad that I never got to take a class from him.

I beleive he was fired for discussing religion in a POSC class after the administration told him to stop doing it.

Yeah he got fired, or technically, his contract was discontinued. I had him the last year that his POSC 333 class was offered. Apparently the dean of that department or college really had it out for him and was just looking for a good reason to get rid of him. A "couple" of studens complaining about the bible quoting was enough I guess. He was allowed to teach the following spring semester but not after that. I'm not sure what he's doing right now. I've thought about emailing him and getting ahold of him somehow as well.

That guy was hands down one of THE most intelligent people I have ever met. Photographic memory.

My POSC degree got me in the army.

I was in his very first class. About 25 of us.

If nobody here knows, I can ask a girl I went to high school with that convinced me to take his class that first semester he taught. It's her cousin. I'm sure she would know.

Grew from 25 to about 300+. Pretty cool.

You know, is there a way that Dr. Manning could teach the class off campus completely independent of the university. From what I understand it's his own research and "pet project". I know he would be able to keep the place full if he was allowed.

That's such a great idea, to teach a class off campus. His class was BY FAR the BESY class I have ever taken. I kept his book and manual and everything just because it's life stuff. He cared so much about all of us and it hurt the day he announced that he wasn't coming back. I cried right along with him.

Good luck on finding him. I hope he realizes just how much we all admired him and enjoyed his class.

I know how much he loved teaching this stuff. I wonder if anyone could convince him to teach it independently.

Anyone here ever meet Mandi, his TA?? She's been a good friend of mine since we were freshmen...but have lost touch over time. My best friend and I used to go out to several of the Poultry Sci functions with her, and Dr. Manning was always there- had some fun times! I could sit and listen to him for hours and be thoroughly entertained b/c he's so intruiging and relates incredibly well to the student level.

His dismissal was truly unfortunate; but with his talents and intelligence, I have no doubts that everything will work out for him in some form and fashion.

I was amazed at his memory. I took two classes from him, and never really said much in class. I maybe went to his office a couple times to ask him some questions. But I would see him around town or something, and he remembered my name. His 333 class must of had about 300 and his 201 class had about 150.

Charger, with a name like Mandi (with an "i" ), she has to be hot.

Dr. manning is now an associate in practice at a mixed animal Vet clinic in Bulverde Texas, I don't know the name of the clinic ( maybe Bulverde Veterinary Hospital ? )but the Vet he works for is Kenny Patton. The clinic is on 281 about 10 miles north of San Antonio.

stumbled across this post 22 years later… 1) yes i was POSC '93.. now a general mgr run an HEB.. 2) Kenny Patton still has that practice in Bulverde (Country Hills Vet) saw him today
