No Beth Phoenix .. after the setup during the men fight.. I assume she would be involve some how.

Overall the matches has been good but not great. Still have not seen that wow moment from this Royal Rumble. Again a lot of great spots and good story (Brock, Bobby Lashley, Sheamus, Drew, Omos.. all had great story in the rumble) However; No Rock.. no Stone Cold.. no Beth against Rhea in Women Royal Rumble. Booker T and Paul Logan did great but nothing special yet.

Hoping the Final match will be really great.

People were getting themselves hyped up for SCSA or Rock appearance based on very vague rumors

Agree. I fear that the timeline to do the Rock vs Roman is running out. Rock isn't getting younger and he is already 50 years old. Now that being said, solid story telling and right now the Bloodline story w/ Sami is extremely good.

Just got home. Fun show. Not as good as it could've been. Women's Rumble match was great, but the audience was flat for the first third due to the previous two matches. Big pops for Raquel, Asuka, and Becky. Surprisingly big pop for Natalya. Lots of boos for Mia Jax, who looked absolutely atrocious. The only person that got booed more than her was Hardy.

Was at the show. Crowd was hyped for the men's Rumble. Think Seth got the loudest pop followed closely by Edge, Brock, Booker T, and Rey. Cody got a good pop but still no clue why they announced before he was returning.

McAfee return was also a huge pop and got the crowd buzzing.

Logan Paul and Ricochet spot was absolutely incredible. Logan Paul is a giant Dbag, but there's no denying how good he is at this. He's a natural and freak athlete. He's hit an insane spot every time he wrestles. Luckily he and WWE seem to get that he needs to be a heel and will generate serious heat. Looks like they are setting up him vs Rollins for Wrestlemania which will be awesome... but if Seth doesn't win I will lose it.

I ran to the restroom for the Pitch Black match and thought I was quick. Came back just in time to see the Uncle Howdy dive. This Bray Wyatt thing is losing me after starting off really cool. LA Knight got a good pop and is winning the crowd over. He's awesome on the mic... YEAAAAH

The KO-Roman match was good, but afterward felt like one of the biggest moments in rasslin history. The Sami story has been so phenomenal. The crowd ERUPTED when Sami finally hit Roman. And I don't know how loud it was on tv or if they edited it out... but the entire arena chanting "**** YOU ROMAN" was iconic. And then Jey walking out and so visibly torn... just amazing stuff.

I get a lot of people like Cody for some reason... but I think he's corny as hell and so forced. The Sami-Bloodline story has been so organic and amazing to watch... I think Sami winning would just be such an incredible moment and one of the loudest pops of all time. Excited to see what they do with him and The Bloodline at Elimination Chamber in his hometown of Montreal. The crowd is going to be nuclear for Sami.

Really fun show. So glad I finally got to see a Royal Rumble.

It was a fun show. But the Alamodome was such a crappy venue. I won't go to another event there.

Watching the replay, it seems like they did mute the F U Logan chants after he put Seth out.

As out of the WWE universe as I am now, glad you made it. It's such a blast. This Logan Paul bit intrigues me. Not a big fan of his but all I keep hearing from non-wrestling fans that are friends is essentially "Did you see what Logan Paul did?" to which my response is "No, I only watch AEW now. Can you fill me in and how do you know what's going on with wrestling?"

Logan Paul is easy to hate, which makes him a good celebrity pop in heel. However, it's also easy to respect him for the work he has done to appear legitimate in the ring. He shouldn't be a full time worker, because that would take away from what makes him effective as a heel, but he does great work when he's in the ring.

WWE has done a great job with celebrity appearances over the last few years. Paul, Pat Macafee, and even Bad Bunny have turned in respectable or better in ring performances. Hell, all three of them have put in better performances than anything Ronda Rousey has done in the ring, and she's held multiple belts.

A lot of fans can't get past the idea of who Logan Paul is. I will admit, I was skeptical at first, but he can go. Insanely athletic and natural in the ring. He has only wrestled a handful of matches, but you would never be able to tell that based on the matches themselves. WWE needs to lean into the natural heel heat he gets and just go with it.

I'm glad I'm not the only one that feels Cody is so forced. I'm sure that's the only reason he came back to WWE was to have him win the belt at Wrestlemania and beat Roman at some point. I feel if he didn't get a guarantee that he would be champion he would not have gone back. It feels to predictable.

The Sami-Bloodline story has been great. I feel that Triple H can go in many directions with this. WWE announced that this Royal Rumble was the most money at the gate, beating the 2017 Royal Rumble which was also in San Antonio.

WWE Royal Rumble 2023 Records:

$7.7 million gate (Royal Rumble all-time gate record)
Merchandise sales up 135% (Royal Record all-time record)
Sponsorship revenue up 200% (Royal Rumble all-time record). Which we clearly saw everywhere.

I guess I dig Cody because I followed him while he was with ROH. He's completely committed to pro wrestling, and that for me, makes him easy to support…

He's easy to support. He was fantastic being the leader of the live shows in the early days of AEW. He's a great wrestler. He deserves this moment for him and his family.

But I also think he has a ceiling so making him champ too long would be a mistake. Give him the moment, give him a well deserved run, then work on other storylines for the champion.

We're at damn near a decade of WWE trying to force Roman on everyone when the fans actively were against it...then giving it to him and forcing everyone to deal with him as champ. And it's too bad for him that we're likely ending this current run right as he's getting legit hate/pop for something storyline related and not because he was spoonfed opportunity after opportunity.

Decent read on the depth of that Bloodline story line.

Reading a few things about the Brock Lesnar freak out thing after his elimination. Supposedly the ref throw into the crowd wasn't planned and the ref was injured. He was supposed to be the one in the ring with Cody at the end but they had to make a last-minute switch. Sucks for the ref. They don't get any attention in WWE and would have been a nice moment for him to be the one raising the winner's hand.

RIP Leaping Lanny Poffo

Quote:

The wrestling world has lost another legend as former WWE Superstar The Genius Lanny Poffo has passed away at the age of 68.
WWE Hall of Famer Hacksaw Jim Duggan took to social media to break the unfortunate news this morning, tweeting out:
Quote:

"With a very, very heavy heart, I've been asked to let everyone know about the passing of our friend and colleague Lanny Poffo, The Genius. RIP Lanny," Hacksaw Jim Duggan said.
Poffo, the brother of "Macho Man" Randy Savage, is best known for his character, "The Genius", that he portrayed during a point in his WWE run from 1985 to 1992. Poffo was also known as "Leaping Lanny" during his career and also worked in WCW, Mid-South, and the National Wrestling Alliance throughout his 30+ year career. His cause of death is unknown at this time.

YES! Give Sami his title, and then have Cody take it from him…
