Guess they had to give the heels one major match win -- but Omega should have beaten Okada.

Wrestemania 3 was the event that started my love for wrestling.. Hulk Hogan vs Andre the Giant was such a great event and I marked out for it completely. People forget how close WWF almost failed in the 80s and Hulk Hogan was the Golden Goose that propel the company past it roots into a national company.

Friday Smackdown should be a tribute show for Hulk Hogan. He did more for WWE and wrestling then any other wrestler.. even his competition help make WWF(E) stronger by forcing them to innovate and improve there product.

I know he's come under scrutiny over the last few years, not just for the controversy with the radio host but also for his locker room antics and lies over the years.

But the reality is the pairing of Hogan and the marketing genius of Vince McMahon saved the wrestling industry in the '80s and made it mainstream. So many kids growing up in the era have great memories.

I was a Hulkamaniac in my childhood, then he once again had me glued to the TV with the NWO heel turn.

Hogan probably had the greatest heel turn in history. Can't think of a bigger or more shocking one than his.

My friend who got me into wrestling ~8 years ago or so said as a 9 or 10 year old, seeing Hogan's heel turn live was the moment that made follow wrestling forever.

FWIW, Goldberg had really great things to say about Hulk. He was his mentor and taught him how to be a professional. He had our HS football team sing happy birthday to him two years ago in August, sent Hulk the video. He really admired him and said he was a great person….he went on and on about him.

One thing I always respected about Hogan is that for as much grief about "backstage politicking" past wrestlers have thrown on him, I've never heard him trash other wrestlers. Maybe he did and I missed it but it seems like a lot of wrestlers air out past grievances or drudge up old gossip constantly in shoot interviews and he never seemed to go that route.

Undertaker rarely had a bad word to say about anybody… and he dislikes Hulk quite a bit. That says a lot to me

Taker's been compromised for years:

He burned a lot of people along the way. That's part of his entire story arc for sure. I used to listen to Talk is Jericho quite a bit a handful of years ago and the varying stories/opinions on Hulk were always interesting to listen to from his guests.

Scott will forever be part of the Cena final title run video package and other than that just a forgotten entity within the WWE universe. That's what you get for booking him in such a major moment.

Honestly I felt that way too, but the more I've heard Taker talk about the incident in question (Hogan acting hurt after a tombstone) the more I think he was over-reacting.

How I always heard it was that the Undertaker was new to the company and got booked in a match with Hulk Hogan (in 1991. During the match he gave the tombstone and Hogan acted legitimately injured saying in the ring "you got me brother", which freaked Taker out because he didn't want to hurt the golden-goose. Then after the match Taker saw on the playback that the tombstone was safe (Hogan's head never hit the mat) and he figured Hogan was trying to make him look bad to Vince for being unsafe in the ring. After the match they got into a confrontation and Hogan denied that was his faking anything or trying to make anyone look bad, which Taker took as Hogan just weaseling out of the situation because of his reputation for backstage politicking.

On his podcast though Taker mentioned that he was worried about Hogan going to Vince for a couple weeks before actually talking to him, meaning that Hogan had ample time and opportunity to go to Vince if that was his plan, or to milk the neck injury or whatever it could have been that Taker was concerned about. Now looking back on the incident, Hogan had long said he was already having back issues due to his leg-drop finisher by the 90s and wasn't taking hardly any bumps by then, so him genuinely thinking he tweaked something in his back in the moment doesn't seem that far-fetched. There are also a ton of times that Hogan genuinely used his pull back stage to put himself over, I just don't think this was one of them.

Or Hogan could have just been hazing Taker by making him worry about the incident for a while, which is about the tamest rib I can imagine a newer wrestler to the company receiving from its top veteran. Especially with all the other pranks, hazing, etc. that the Undertaker recounts seeing or taking part of on his podcast.

True. Good point

But I would say Taker seems like the type of guy to get over one incident like that. His comments about karma, ego and "things come back around" make me think a lot of things went down. He also talked about what type of locker room guy he was and said "the fans have heard about this stuff and that matters to them". Makes me think there's been a lot that's gone down over the years
SgtBarbarossa
How long do you want to ignore this user?
True. Taker seems pretty reserved on telling damaging stories about other wrestlers when he can help it, even with having a wrestling podcast. I can't imagine the dirt they all have on each other.

Yeah, that didn't make much sense. I figured they were going to have a run-in but tie it into the whole "Rock hand signals" thing. Like:

The Rock holding up three fingers at 2024 Bad Blood was for Cena joining him at 2025 Elimination Chamber, because Cena holds up the three fingers after matches

The Rock holding up two fingers at 2025 Elimination Chamber would have been for the Usos interfering at 2025 Wrestlemania, because... there's 2 of them I guess?

The Rock would then hold up the one finger at some point, which would obviously be for Roman Reigns and his whole pointing-towards-the-sky pose.

I guess they still could do something with that... Like during the Cena/Rhodes street fight match at SummerSlam Cena loses, so the Rock comes out to the ring. The Rock points at Rhodes and says he didn't interfere at Wrestlemania or during the SummerSlam match because he wanted Cena to prove he could win on his own, etc etc, but now the gloves are off or something like that. Then the Usos come out, and after much posturing and "what's gonna happen next" tension, they start beating up John Cena. After it looks like they came to Cody's aid, they surprise super-kick Rhodes and embrace the Rock. They jumped Cena for failing the Rock as his champion, so it's a double turn between the Usos/Cena. Then the Rock/Usos leave without assaulting Rhodes further, giving him another chance to think about joining the Rock's crew.

Next night on Raw, Rhodes has another big speech where it's tempting but he tells the Rock to **** off. Cena sits out a few weeks to nurse his injuries and comes back as a babyface, explaining that he was tricked by the Rock and his big-time Hollywood ways Cena gets to retire as a good guy and he teams up with Rhodes against the Usos a couple times in the future. We don't see the Rock again until Survivor Series, when he sends Reigns out to interfere during a Rhodes match, completing his crew and setting up a third Reigns/Rhodes Wrestlemania showdown.

The hand gestures finally make some sort of sense and also having the fully Samoan stable would explain that time Rock gave Rhodes a pepper that fell off of a lei ( If I remember right? )

His promos as a heel are so freaking good.

It's like Bayley, some people are amazing as a babyface, but they're god-tier as a heel.
