The director of WandaVision. Fast-tracked and aiming for what sounds like a summer 2023 release. Glad to have this cast back for at least one more go...

This, however, gives me pause...

Deadline is also reporting that the film is based on a script written by Lindsey Beer and Geneva Robertson. Robertson co-wrote the 2018 Tomb Raider movie and 2019's Captain Marvel.

Pine should put on tons of weight for the role.

Sounds like it's a completely new script/concept. I imagine they started from scratch once negotiations fell through with Hemsworth.

Premature on the cast.... the article removed that sentence and....

Yeah, just saw that. But they can't just swap out different characters/actors if Pine & co say no. This latest draft was almost assuredly written with the hope, intent, and likely soft assurances that the Abrams cast will be back. With no Hemsworth in the mix commanding a massive, added payout, I don't see any reason why Paramount won't be able to get all the deals done.

If so, a random aside, but Zoe Saldana will have an insane six-month stretch across holiday '22/summer '23...

12.16.22 = Avatar 2
05.23.23 = Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol. 3
06.09.23 = Star Trek 4

Well the can't screw up the movies any worse than they have the series, right? (Or can they?!?)

Ever since voyager, the tv side has been SO bad!

You've got the date wrong, Avatar 2 comes out in 2061.

Hope we get back to the quality of the first one. 2 and 3 went from mediocre to not good pretty quick.

Everything about this sounds incredible...

Our sources indicate that Tarantino's Trek film would have involved time travel, with the auteur combining his love for Chris Pine and a plot that sounded similar to "Past Tense" or Star Trek: The Voyage Home, whereby the Enterprise crew visited San Francisco in Earth's actual past. We've heard from people in the know that Kirk and company would have begun bootlegging in America in the 1920s to earn money for ship repairs.
Quote:

On the Bulletproof Screenwriting podcast (via The Playlist), [screenwriter Mark L. Smith] discussed hearing Tarantino read "an awesome cool gangster scene he wrote" and seeing him act it out. He said: "Then just we started working. I would go hang out at his house one night and we would watch old gangster films. We were there for hours We were just kicking back watching gangster films, laughing at the bad dialogue, but talking about how it would bleed into what we wanted to do. Kirk's in it, we've got him. All the characters are there. It would be those guys. I guess you would look at it like all the episodes of the show didn't really connect. So this would be almost its own episode. A very cool episode. There's a little time travel stuff going on. There's all this otherit's really wild."

Has to be better than Picard. What an awful, unnecessarily dark hot mess that is. Maybe Janeway should have kept voyager in the delta quadrant!

So basically would've been Back to the Future meets Pulp Fiction meets The Untouchables.

Man that would've been awesome.

I personally enjoyed Picard, but can see it's not for everyone.

That said absolutely Lower Decks is undeniably fun and great.

Looking at details I think I did see all three. But these movies had no staying power. I think I was blending together 2 and 3 in my head.

The second one was terrible. The third was kind of random - it felt more like an episode than a movie - but yeah, still a lot of fun, and definitely better than two. The first is still one of my favorite blockbusters of the century so far, and I think that with more of gap now, and a bit of a refresh of sorts, the fourth certainly has potential.

I really enjoyed the second one when I saw it in the theater. Have not watched it again in 5 years, but I know the common sentiment is that it was bad. Need to revisit, but maybe I am just blinded by my love for this cast, the rejuvenated effects, and Giachinno's score.

Looking forward to a new one.

The second one got great reviews, everyone liked it.

Then on a predetermined, agreed upon date, everyone decided to start hating it.

That's... not at all how it went down. A sizable chunk of Film Twitter / a number of critics hated it from the start, and I specifically remember many of us here on the board not liking it either, out of the gate. I may go back and find the thread, because I wrote a pretty lengthy tear down the night I saw it.

It all started with the lying about Khan thing on the part of the filmmakers, when everyone and their dog already knew Cumberbatch was Khan. That put a bad taste in people's mouths from the start. Then there were all the Bush presidency/Peter-Weller-as-the-villain comparisons, which the writers proudly admitted to, that got all the usual suspects riled up as well. Finally, in addition to the lazy plotting itself (a near exact retread of the first movie), I distinctly remember so many people absolutely hating Kirk getting the super-blood transfusion in the end, essentially rendering him immortal, a plot point that was so ill-received that they completely ignored it for the third movie.

I love this cast, I love the energy of these movies, and there are absolutely aspects to like about the second movie. But my memory of the whole thing is more definitely people disliking it than liking it, from opening night 'til now. I even remember that Abrams had already been announced as director of Episode VI by the time the second one came out, and people not liking it so much that they worried what he'd do to Star Wars. Turns out they were right...

Remember the intergalactic teleportation technology that should have rendered space flight obsolete?

Such a bad, bad movie.

Ha, that's another thing I remember being a huge, blown-out-of-proportion issue. Honestly, that's the last big movie I remember that had something like that, where the camera basically lingered lustfully on a woman getting undressed (via Kirk's POV). So many wokesters spoke up as that being gratuitous, objectifying, or unnecessary or whatever, that blockbusters basically stopped doing it after that point.

Haha, yes. That, Kirk getting the super-blood transfusion, and then protocol requiring all top Starfleet officers assemble together in the same location for an emergency terrorist-response meeting at the top of a window-heavy glass building. It was all so mind-numbingly bad.

I kind of remember liking the one with Khan.

Was the first one the one where they blew up Vulcan and Spocks hot mom died? Was there any other plot?

1st Movie = Eric Bana as the villain Nero. From the future, accidentally time travels to the past, kicking this whole thing off. And yes, he implodes Vulcan into a black hole of sorts. Wants to destroy Starfleet.

2nd Movie = Cumberbatch as the villain Khan. From the past, had been in hibernation for 200 years. Wants to free his fellow super-soldiers, destroy Starfleet.

3rd Movie = Idris Elba as the villain. Can't remember his name, or what his motivation was, but also sets out to destroy Starfleet (or something).

I love the first movie a ton, especially the first hour or so, and the initial Pine/Nimoy meeting.

The second one is also really enjoyable for me. Love Benedict as Khan and Peter Weller is freaking menacing.

Third one, I can't remember what happens, I tried to watch it a few times on cable and kept falling asleep. I know there was a motorcycle on an alien planet for some reason.

JJ Abrams kicked a lot of ass in SW and ST for this ol' Sci-Fi nerd.
