You might want to try Charley's Guitar Shop.

I expect they'll have a booth at the guitar show.

On another note, assembly complete on my partscaster project. The body is Guitar Fetish GFX. I originally had an Allparts TRO-FAT baseball bat neck on it, but decided to try an old Warmoth SRV neck I had laying around. I think I like it better. The pickups are some generic cheapos but they're okay. I'll likely upgrade with EMGs or Fishman Fluence at some point.

The purple guitar arrived pretty quick. Got it Saturday. Swapped out the black speed knobs for some Amber lamp shades that I got for my blue PRS and didn't end up liking on that one. I'm looking at grabbing some flame maple or cream pickup rings and possible replacing the switch. It feels a little odd.

Whoever switched it over from the old five way rotary they used to do also put in a push/push switch instead of a push/pull like they use in their current models so that may go as well.

The Will Boggs pickups sound solid. Definitely hotter than the 85/15s. Not sure I'm entirely sold on them just yet though. If they do end up getting replaced, the timing will likely be somewhat dependent on how much I'm able to get for them. Sounds like the main issue is if they were built early on in this dude's time making pickups, they'll be desirable. If not , there's a chance they're hot garbage. That whole deal is just a weird story.

Overall I'm really enjoying it. It's got the bumps and bruises you'd expect from a 19 year old guitar, but nothing over the top. The strings seem like they're looser in the same tuning even though it's the same scale length as my CE24.

Saw this on a Facebook page. PRS Millenium Dragon that they allegedly mistakenly mashed up with a Tremonti model or so says Tremonti in an interview somewhere. I know error cards can be worth a bunch. I can only imagine what an error guitar with one that on its own retailed for ~$35k new is worth.

That's my favorite dragon they've put out. Of course, I'd have to hit the power ball to ever own one.

Anybody have any interest in some Rio Grande Pickups? I've got a Buffalo/Texas set and B***ard humbucker sized P90. Looking to get $125 for the set and $75 for the P90.

Ended up selling my Warmoth Tele body and CBS strat neck. I think I underpriced both. The neck lasted less than 24 hours on Facebook and the tele did the same thing once I listed it on eBay. I don't think when I was selling that PRS this whole guitar shortage thing had truly kicked in, but man it sure has now.

I saw this shared on a PRS page. This abomination of a guitar takes the cake for me, but it's got a whole crowd that are desperate for them to make it. I don't get it at all.

Just purchased this little guy. I've been bouncing the idea of this or the Imperial MKII, and ultimately decided on this for the various tones you can get out of it. Will give my review once I get it in. I decided on the turquoise and white because it's just so gaudy, and I love that look.

Yeah, was looking for something that can give me some good bluesy sounds. I have a Dr Z Maz Jr, which I love, but it is definitely an EL84 style sound (kind of a mix between Vox and Marshall).

I also need a very portable amp that I don't need pedals for. Unfortunately, I purchased the Maz Jr without reverb, so i need a pedal setup to get it.

This is the video that did it for me:

That sounds killer! Crazy amount of tone variety in a small package, with a great verb to boot. Plus the built in attenuator??? Awesome.

I've been mildly in the market for a similar type deal, and was really looking at the Magnatone combos. But I gotta tell you, this caught my attention, got some time before I really get serious about buying one thankfully. Plenty of time to rabbit hole many nights away with YT vids ha.

Fantastic little amp, congrats man. Got to give us a report when you get it in and dialed in!

So, not a new guitar post, but just had to share how much I love my freaking guitars. Was just walking by my Strat and decided to plug it in for a bit... an hour later, I finally set it down, ears ringing and starting to sweat. Damn, but did I get into jamming with it! Just played a rockin' three chord, kinda funky, progression (Am, Dm, Am, E7, D7, Am, E7) and looped it.

I don't know what it is, but I just get to a different place when I solo around on my Tele or Strat. Something to do with those single coils and the way they're built. Just love the sound of soloing on them in a very sloppy manner. Hitting them hard with open strings and such, just feels different. I can't play my Gibsons in the same way.

Went to change tuner buttons on the purple guitar and utilized my unique talents to break a tuner. Now I get to figure out what tuners I need to replace the old ones and if I can upgrade at all.
Lathspell
How long do you want to ignore this user?
The PRS? How do you break a tuner?

If it were me, I would use the PRS US tuners, though they are pricey.
Quincey P. Morris
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Was trying to push the button on and it popped out the back side of the tuner. Sounds like my only option really is the Phase II tuners that were in it which are gonna run around $150. Really I could get a single but a new one next to 19 year old tuners is gonna look weird.

Okay, the amp came in today. Played on it for about an hour on my Tele, Strat, and ES-330, so far. It is definitely giving me exactly what I was looking for. I have a Dr Z Maz 18 for playing rock. What i was wanting was something I could play some dirty blues on. I opted for this one because (A) I'm a gear snob and like boutique amps and (B) after looking at many of the 6L6 amp options in that range, this is the one that seemed to sound like I wanted. Also, I freaking LOVE the way it looks.

Initial reactions are as follows:

Aesthetics
Do I really need to? Looks like an old TV. the turquoise tolex with the white on the inside is freaking sexy as hell. That grill with the turquoise on the vertical seams just adds. Beautiful amp.

Sound
This amp has a high and low input, but I stick with the high. There is only a single channel, but it has 3 different voicings: Rhythm, Tweed, and Lead. The Rhythm gives you that classic blackface style clean with lots of headroom for a 20w amp. The Tweed adds a bit of mid hump and snarl, just like you would expect from a "tweed" amp. The Lead channel adds a little more high mids to the signal and tightens up the bottom end.

No EQ setting on the amp. Your sound is your guitar and the channel you choose. There is a tone knob, but I don't see myself rolling the tone off, much at all. To be honest, I don't see how it would be useful past halfway, but perhaps there could be a use out there. If you were to use this to play many types of music, you would probably need to make sure you have an EQ on your board.

The amp does not have a master volume, so turning up the volume adds more saturation and volume to the signal, by driving the tubes harder. Great for me, because I love natural tube overdrive. The overdrive is very open, not much compression if any at all. If you like more compression in your signal, you would need a compression channel

Reverb on board is fantastic. Still playing around with it in different ways.

Built-in Iron-Man II Attenuator is FANTASTIC. I have a Dr Z Brake Lite in my Maz, that I installed. I keep it on max, so I can enjoy great tone from my amp and not get the cops called on me. However, the Iron-Man II blows it out of the water when it comes to maximum volume you can roll off. You can basically use it as a master volume. The last two settings would allow you play this amp at max volume at midnight in an apartment. If you have family or kids that need to sleep at night, but want to play some blues, this thing is perfect.

Overall, very happy with it and excited to get to know it better. I will be going between this and my Maz, depending on my mood.

Got my new tuners in and installed. The pearloid buttons went on these super easy so, even though they're the same tuners, they've made some slight changes. Among them and exceedingly annoyingly, the tab for the screw on the back of the headstock was ever so slightly longer so the old screws holes didn't quite lineup. Not the end of the world but it made installation more of a pain.

That dude that was refinishing the cheap PRS he got finished up his second rebuild. It came out looking badass. I wish I had the patience for that kind of thing.

Here's the the original plus the two refinished. The middle was a color shifting paint.

has anyone had any experience with the vintera 60s strats? not going that direction but was curious about them. i know they're made in the mexico plant.

i was informed that my wedding gift was going to be a new strat. i was told ahead of time because she knows nothing about guitars other than i like to buy them and have been waiting on a strat to round out the collection (for now ). so i've been driving myself nuts looking at reverb, fender, mod shop (more color and configuration options), etc.

i've always known i would go through the mod shop when the time comes. sherwood green, aged white plastic parts, roasted maple neck, '57/'62 pickups (i think).

now i'm second guessing myself like crazy with all the options. what would you go with if you were given a blank slate to build or buy a strat?

A lot depends on what you currently have. Need to know how it fits into your collection. Is this your first strat?

Since I already have a strat, I would probably go with a mahogany body and either dual humbuckers or P90s, just for something different. I like the roasted necks. I just wish they still offered swamp ash bodies as an option.

i had a sunburst squire back in jr. high/high school that i began learning on but yes, this will be my first strat.

currently have a squier tele that will absolutely be upgraded down the road to a real tele. bought it cheap when i first got back into playing. also have a epi 50s standard les paul and an epi casino that will finally deliver in a couple weeks. also have my old bass and a cheap acoustic i'll eventually get around to replacing.

as far as the strat, it's something i want to get right this first time around and have it forever. that's why i'm now driving myself nuts and second guessing myself like crazy...but in a fun way...too many options floating around my head.

Thanks for the background.

If I had one strat, it would probably be early 60s style. Rosewood board, maple neck (no roasting), alder body, traditional 6 screw trem decked, SSS pickups.

Enjoy the process! Any particular choices you're going back and forth on?
Slicer97
How long do you want to ignore this user?
I would hit a Guitar Center and play several different models through whatever they have on the floor that's closest to your amp. Different models have different necks, different pickups, etc., so take your time and find the one you like best.

I'd also recommend the standard SSS configuration since it sounds like you want your strat to be a strat.

i know i'm shooting for that srv sound (talent not included). i know stevie played a '59 or '61 i believe.

i'm fairly certain what i'm looking for configuration wise, although that changes here and there as i continue to wander and window shop and confuse myself. at this point i'm just stupidly driving myself nuts over color combos.

the only way to get the sherwood green and configuration without paying a ton is through the mod shop. all the ones on reverb are custom shop heavy relics and $3,500+. wondering if i'm nuts for wanting a green strat...

if you buy a new american professional through fender, the color options are very limited.

also a big fan of the classic olympic white, some of the other blues and greens through the mod shop, also love the tomatillo look.

I see that Chicago music exchange has a pre order available for a fender players Sherwood green Strat. That would be cheaper than going through the mod shop, but may not be exactly what you're looking for.

I love Olympic white strats, which is why mine is. I have an American 60's Original strat in Olympic white that plays fantastic. I did replace the pickups with my set of Seymour Duncan Antiquity II's.

  • What's your budget?
  • Neck profile preference?
  • Alder or Ash?
  • HSS or SSS?
  • Maple or Rosewood fretboard?
  • Nitro or Poly finish?
  • Looking for a more vintage strat, or modern?

Those are what I would need to know, to make a rec. I went with the 60's Original because I wanted a Nitro finish strat, but didn't want to pay over $2,800 for a used CS strat that i've never played. I love the neck profile of the 60's, and it is just a blast to play.

I had an American Professional before that, which was a great guitar. However, I just prefer a Nitro finish. Maybe it's in my head, but they just feel... softer? Sound richer and more alive? IDK. I may just be imagining things. However, if i'm going to spend money on a guitar, I want it the way I want it.

Everything here points at the exact guitar I have. American Original 60's Strat.

The model they had before that one is the American Vintage Reissue, which you can find used on Reverb.

Both guitars meet each spec you listed, except for the Sherwood green. Granted, they do have a nitro lacquered neck, if you prefer satin finishes. I recommend hitting up your local store and playing one. The American Original Series are the closest you can get to vintage spec before going Custom Shop:

Some Junkie Cosmonaut

agreed. i have looked at them closely before but started checking out the mod shop because of lack of color options (i think there's only three?).

not going to lie though, i actually dig the shell pink and think it would look really cool as the nitro ages just not sure i would be happy looking down at a pink strat for the rest of my life, haha.
