It has swords so I'm in.

Matt Damon looks like they pulled a guy from the backwoods of Tennessee or Georgia.

Read the history of that and it was actually really interesting. I was shocked they had that much detail about the duel itself for something from the medieval days.

Reviews coming out of the Venice Film Festival today are overwhelmingly positive. Sounds like we have an Oscar contender on our hands.

Yeah, I can't get over Matt Damon's mullet and beard combo.

This. He just seems really miscast here. Just can't see him in this role.

Lets hear your reasoning

There have been many many many similar movies.

Doesn't mean this won't be good, just nothing fresh….Adam Driver sword fighting, never seen that before.

Ben Affleck and Matt Damon together in a movie…Finally!

There have been "many many many similar movies" set in 14th century France, in which two men duel to the death because one is accused of rape, told from the "dueling" perspectives of both the man accused of rape and the woman/victim accusing him, written by two of the most famous movie stars on the planet, who first burst onto the scene by winning the Oscar for Best Original Screenplay, now reunited on both the page and the screen for the first time in decades, directed by one of the most renowned and prolific directors of the past 40+ years?

Come on, he means medieval period war movies. And you know that.

Personally, I love medieval period war movies, but for some reason, this one doesn't really seem to move the needle for me. Can't really explain why....maybe it is the continued GOT hangover. I'm sure I'll check it on Netflix, et al, one day, but not rushing to the theater for it.

So by that logic, simply because it's set in medieval times it can't be original? That's such a short-sighted position to take. Also, this isn't a "war" movie. It's a period drama/thriller with a duel to the death at the end. And again, it's told from multiple perspectives. As in we see certain scenes twice, once from Jodie Comer's character's perspective, then once from Adam Driver's character's perspective. The female perspective was written by a female screenwriter (Nicole Holofcener), while the male perspective was written by Damon & Affleck.

That's cool! That's original!

It just feels like forever since we've had an adult drama of this ilk, on this scale, with this much pedigree and fanfare. It's exciting. I don't at all get the "been there done that" sentiment.

You're now pulling from info that the general public doesn't know. Your excitement is based on study of the film, which I assume includes interviews, articles, talking with friends associated with it. And I'll be honest, what you are selling sounds quite interesting.

I had a 2 minute trailer that was "seen that, but with a A-list cast".

Blame their marketing team I suppose.

Agree with Ol Jock. The trailer looks like 1-1/2 hours of talking with a swordfight at the end.
Yawn. What you described seems much, much more interesting.

I feel like Matt Damon has a 100% batting average on movies when wearing a goofy haircut/wig or prosthetic. So I'm in.

The first time I saw this trailer I thought, "How did Theo Von get cast in a period drama with Adam Driver?"

i'm not getting "been there, done that" vibes. i am, however, getting "this looks exhausting" vibes and the 2.5hr runtime doesn't exactly alleviate that concern.

it sounds interesting and i like that they have different writers for the different accounts, but i just have a sense that as good as it may very well be, it's going to be a tough hang and probably not something i'll watch multiple times.
