I think it's safe to say he's a genius at what he does. Prodigy? no. Genius yes.

That award goes to the Wachowski brothers.

He is a genius in my book. His first couple of films were OK, but Resevoir Dogs on....WOW!

You minimize my movement anyway,
I must persuade you another way.

You gotta love him, if for nothing else, then this speech he did in the movie "Sleep With Me":

Sid: You want subversion on a massive level. You know what one of the greatest f'ing scripts ever written in the history of Hollywood is? Top Gun.

Duane: Oh, come on.

Sid: Top Gun is f'ing great. What is Top Gun? You think it's a story about a bunch of fighter pilots.

Duane: It's about a bunch of guys waving their d!cks around.

Sid: It is a story about a man's struggle with his own homosexuality. It is! That is what Top Gun is about, man. You've got Maverick, all right? He's on the edge, man. He's right on the f'ing line, all right? And you've got Iceman, and all his crew. They're gay, they represent the gay man, all right? And they're saying, go, go the gay way, go the gay way. He could go both ways.

Duane: What about Kelly McGillis?

Sid: Kelly McGillis, she's heterosexuality. She's saying: no, no, no, no, no, no, go the normal way, play by the rules, go the normal way. They're saying no, go the gay way, be the gay way, go for the gay way, all right? That is what's going on throughout that whole movie... He goes to her house, all right? It looks like they're going to have sex, you know, they're just kind of sitting back, he's takin' a shower and everything. They don't have sex. He gets on the motorcycle, drives away. She's like, "What the f, what the f is going on here?" Next scene, next scene you see her, she's in the elevator, she is dressed like a guy. She's got the cap on, she's got the aviator glasses, she's wearing the same jacket that the Iceman wears. She is, okay, this is how I gotta get this guy, this guy's going towards the gay way, I gotta bring him back, I gotta bring him back from the gay way, so I'll do that through subterfuge, I'm gonna dress like a man. All right? That is how she approaches it. Okay, now let me just ask you - I'm gonna digress for two seconds here. I met this girl Amy here, she's like floating around here and everything. Now, she just got divorced, right? All right, but the REAL ending of the movie is when they fight the MIGs at the end, all right? Because he has passed over into the gay way. They are this gay fighting f'ing force, all right? And they're beating the Russians, the gays are beating the Russians. And it's over, and they f'ing land, and Iceman's been trying to get Maverick the entire time, and finally, he's got him, all right? And what is the last f'ing line that they have together? They're all hugging and kissing and happy with each other, and Ice comes up to Maverick, and he says, "Man, you can ride my tail, anytime!" And what does Maverick say? "You can ride mine!" Swordfight! Swordfight! F'ing A, man!

he's probably one of the few "famous" people I've ever met. does a lot of coke, from what I can tell.

I don't know if I'd go so far as to call him a genius, but he has a vision and its very different from most others making films today (not to say that he's original, since obviously most of his films are combined fan wanks). Still very interesting and refreshing.

Egotistical? No. He's a fanboy who's getting the opportunity to do what he loves. He loves movies and he definitly loves talking about movies. Listening to him go on and on about his favorite films or scenes that he loves shows me that there's no ego there.

Overhyped? Maybe, but that's hardly his fault.

Overrated? Everyone has an opinion. I think the Wachowski's are highly overrated after they ruined their Matrix movies with those crappy, overindulgent and overhyped sequels.

Until Quentin makes a movie that disappoints me, I'd say that he's not overhyped or overrated.

His movies have always bored me. I almost turned off Kill Bill vol1 in the middle because it was so cheesy. He's way too melodramatic for my tastes.

The poor guy has a suitcase obsession. A suitcase full of money. A suitcase full of drugs. Whatever. He's talented but undisciplined. JACKIE BROWN is the only movie he ever did that had a strong narrative and characters you believed. All the others were just exercises in style and him telling people how cool he is. Nobody needs to believe the hype on him because he believes it so strongly himself.

I'm a HUGE fan. SO much so, that in one of my ENDS classes our project was to design a house for a celebrity, and I chose him. I probably did a relaly crappy job, but I didn choose him. The best part of his movies to me are the sound tracks. I'm not sure how much credit he should get for this. But, the sound track to Resevoir Dogs is unfreaking believable. Also the way his movies tell the story is awesome.

He was on Jay Leno last night and said he got direct the first episode of Friends. There were originally 25 friends, but when his episode was over only 6 were left.

That's hilarious.

I think he is brilliant. Kill Bill was great.

I like him because he strays from the mundane. The movie market nowadays is so predictable that I feel like I could write any of the crap they put up there. In fact, I think I will. I'll begin work on a script and have it in a movie within 3 years or so.

I'll report back here occasionally to let y'all know on the progress. I think I'll have to quit grad school, too.

wasn't Reservoir Dogs his 1st movie to direct? I thought he'd only done 5 movies: Reservoir, Pulp, Jackie Brown, Kill Bill 1, KB 2....and he's a genius

He directed a portion of 4 Rooms as well.

He's actually done 7 the others being "Four Rooms(95') and My Best Friends Birthday (87') from which the quote "Your a** is grass, and I'm the lawnmower!" comes from, with number 8 on the way with Inglorious *******s - about a group of soldiers in WWII.

How's this for a pullback?
But I wanted a generic QT thread to drop this in. He and Tisanna Arquette aren't getting along. I am not a huge fan of his, but agreed with him here mostly. She is beating him up over the use of the N word, he points out that she took his money gladly.

Holy bumps.

I agree with QT here. Rosanna Arquette probably hates Mel Brooks too.

You can't tip toe around the gangster world, you either avoid it, or dive in. No half measures. "Wound Bill" sounds like a meh movie. "Jaqueline White" never gets off the ground.

I have no special love or hate for Quentin. I enjoy his movies a lot and always enjoy listening to him talk about movies he loves, because he is obviously a movie nerd and just loves talking about them.

But I will ALWAYS applaud someone like him who doesn't bow to this woke mind-virus that has permeated Hollywood and the rest of the world. To not apologize but instead attack back, in a very classy way, is simply great to see in this day and age. These hypocritical actors living in the twilight of their careers, going back and trashing past works through a modern lens, is disgusting to see.

Bring back race jokes. Bring back fat jokes. Bring back blackface and whiteface. I just want to be back in the 90's/early 00's where we could still just live life without worrying about offending some rando we've never met.

Gotta love it when 'woke' enters the discussion.

Look, I think there can be multiple things that are true.

I am a huge fan of QT. He is one of my fav filmmakers and has been for a long time.

HOWEVER, his character, Jimmy, in PF, is pretty problematic. It's one thing to use the word Soooo much in the context of Django. That's completely understandable. It does seem a bit gratuitous for that character in PF though.

And to the point that this is some new woke thing, there were plenty of folks back in the 90's and early 2000's that had issues with QT so this is not some modern thing.

I also agree with QT in that it seems like a bit of cheap shot for her to reference this now. I don't know the context in which she was asked but she prob needs to just keep that to herself.

He's an actor. It' a character. It's not problematic.
Macarthur
How long do you want to ignore this user?
I think it's problematic because it's not a good character/acting job. Maybe it could have been pulled off with a diff actor. .

I just think, given the context, he uses the work WAYYY too much. I grew up in a small town in Texas, and I never encountered anyone that used that word that much. That's why many feel like it was gratuitous, and I don't think it's a particularly 'natural' feeling dialogue, given the context.

There's also the element that Tarantino is a terrible actor. I think it's part of the charm for his many cameos, but I do think it's a bit cringe in this instance.

Look, I'll say it again, he's a top 5 for me, all time. The move PF is a masterpiece, and it's still okay to say that character is a bit problematic.

Imagine a world where a movie contains a drug overdose, gratuitous violence, rape, and jewelry worn rectally; yet we're clutching our pearls over the inclusion of a word
