this week, nice! Im pleased the mystery movie was not about a clown in a corn field, even though I will be seeing it. Fight or Flight was a lot of fun.

Saw the preview for Final Destination last evening prior to Clown in a Corn Field and it brought back some good memories. Will be seeing that.

Cinemark has $5 Tuesday. Also the Secret Movie Series, which is 5 bucks. Its great.

On that note...Bring Her Back was the secret movie this evening and it was one messed up movie. And I enjoyed it.

LILO and Stitch being such a big hit is fascinating to me. I was 12 when it came out, so I didn't connect with it like the prior Disney movies. That might just be a "me" issue compared to people 5 years younger.

And it was only a solid movie financially, making $145M (equivalent to $284M today). That's 394 all time when adjusting for inflation, between Madagascar 2 and Tangled.

I never would've guessed a remake would open better than Aladdin or the Little Mermaid. Now I'm very curious what the Disney+ data would say about how popular the original lilo & stitch been compared to other movies I think more highly of.

1. Disney has successfully marketed Stitch for years - cute almost-dog-like alien with a funny voice and personality for little kids, so it isn't a slave to its original release timeframe's audience feeling nostalgic. They've made Stitch into its own brand.
2. It's fun to take your kids to the movies.
3. This one wasn't marred with woke hysteria in the lead-up (the day and age we live in) or in the word of mouth.
4. Disney actually did a good job adapting the original into a "live action" version without crapping all over the source material or its audience.

No surprise it is doing well. Nothing close to it in theaters now that you can take young kids to without reservations.

What's crazy about this is it was supposed to go straight to Disney+, and was made fairly cheap as such.

Funny how we've completely reversed course from 5 years ago when made for theatricals were going straight to streaming instead.

This is gonna do $1B+ global, and almost went straight to streaming.

L&S has the built-in advantage of appealing to boys as much as girls. It's mostly about a crazy, funny alien. Little Mermaid made $300 m large in spite of no self-respecting 10 and under boy having the slightest inclination to go see it. You're not forcing the boys to see this one.

Not a single one over 2h 15m, thus allowing for more showings throughout the day. We could very well be looking at a record-breaking July...

I'm glad you posted this because I had the dates switched in my head for Supes and FF.

So Jurassic Park gets 9 days to itself, then Superman gets two weeks. Do we know of any competition in the weeks after 7/25 for FF?

It's worth noting that F1 releases June 27 and has a two-week exclusive IMAX window, meaning Jurassic World Rebirth won't be on IMAX screens during its run. In terms of big/notable releases, here's the breakdown during that stretch...

6.27 - 2-week IMAX run = F1

7.02 - Jurassic World Rebirth

7.11 - 2-week IMAX run = Superman

7.18 - I Know What You Did Last Summer

7.25 - 2-week IMAX run = The Fantastic Four: First Steps

8.01 - The Naked Gun

8.08 - 4-week IMAX run = Weapons

(though, after two weeks, they might give IMAX screens back to F1, F4, or Superman if any of them blow up)

Also, I just realized that "F4" comes out exactly four weeks after "F1."

My guess is lack of marketing. Didn't see a trailer/tv commercial, anything, and didn't know this movie existed until just a couple days ago.

Agreed. I hardly saw it advertised anywhere. Reviews are great, though, so you'd think Disney would want to spend more in marketing. I guess they have their reasons, though.

This is a good thread. It keeps falling off my watchlist for some reason, so this is me adding it back.

Even my kids were saying Pixar should up the look of the animation; they all just run together.
